Well, shit.
I didn’t want to see him go, but this is very unfortunate. I guess it opens up a spot in the outfield for Gordon for the entire season.

at least we have that hand expert
usually players out for the year wind up pinch hitting multiple times after the injury

he just screws it up when he gets there.

Podsednik doesn't run into walls
he stops, waits for the ball to hit the wall, and plays the rebound

I blame the red sox
All they had to do was wish for DDJ and he got hurt.

Sucks for DDJ, and sucks for us
But in the long run may end up as a blessing in disguise. DDJ could be an integral piece for next year, as one of the few REAL mentors to a very young (hopefully) clubhouse.
Not that Kendall doesn't do that
I once had hope...now I have Moore.
Having to hold onto DDJ doesn't bother me at all
You can pretty much pencil in his stat line every year. You know exactly what you are going to be getting.
His Skill Set
Ages fairly well.

maybe. maybe not
depending on a lot of things, now including how well the thumb heals
The only measure of true success in the NFL is the Vince Lombardi trophy. Anything less is a rationalization.
I'll take my chances with DDJ
before I’ll sit still for Francouer and his complete lack of ability.
F me in the A.
I didn’t really want to see him go, but I would like to see him actually play.
So where’s this leave the Arb/Option Type A/B talk? He probably won’t qualify for either Type A or B now right? So we pick up the option.
This probably brings down his trade value, then?

Only for teams that are selfishly expecting him to play this year

can't win for losing around here
well, so much for the trade season. Its over now

And I'm out
I can’t watch Rick AnKKKiel play every day for the rest of the season. Talk to you all next Spring!

Gordon
I truly hope they are bringing Gordon up to play every day. How can you ever judge him is he is the #4 fill in guy in the OF?
I have watched
Gordon in AAA and believe me, he is not ready for the majors yet. He strikes out at least once or twice a game. The hole in the swing is still there. I hope he can fix it here.
All that I am saying
is to raise your expectations too high. He is not there yet.
by BlueBloodRoyal on Jul 23, 2010 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh, they're raised high, all right!
All kidding aside, when I saw him play I did see issues with his swing. I couldn’t tell for sure if it was because he still had a hole or because he just didn’t care (it’s surprisingly hard to tell when Alex cares). His defense seemed pretty sound, though. We’ll see how it translates to the majors, but I think he’ll be able to duplicate, and possibly exceed, what he’s done in the past.

I'll bet you he posts a better OPS from this point on in the season
than any other OF on this roster (assuming he gets regular playing time)
Hole or no hole – he STILL has more talent than Pods, Ankiel, or Maier

As Someone Commented
In an earlier thread, having a hole in your swing makes him like every other MLB batter besides Mauer and Pujols. We’ve seen Alex at the MLB level. He’ll be fine. RF will be a much less taxing position than 3B.

I guess this means the Royals will be picking up the option
The Royals could still trade him in the offseason, but only at a discount with him coming off an injury that could affect his swing. A trade in spring training is another possibility, as teams would have the opportunity to see that there are no lingering effects from the surgery. But his trade value will never be as high again.
This puts to bed the Type A/B free agent compensation talk if the Royals were dumb enough to decline option. Even if his status remained the same (the free agent compensation rankings give some playing time credit for players on the DL), the injury just cements the fact that DDJ could make more in arbitration than on the free agent market. The injury hurts his free agent value in the same way that it hurts his trade value, so if the Royals offered arbitration (which they would have to do to qualify for the draft pick compensation), DDJ would simply accept arbitration (and get a higher salary than the option).
eh, I think there is less chance of a mistake when the player's value is the highest
Even if you undersell DDJ, the return should still be pretty good. When his value is lower, underselling is more likely to lead to nothing.
Unbelievable
As far as I’m concerned, DDJ is one of very, very few bright spots on this team. He’s fun to watch and just about always dependable. Huge blow to the level of enjoyment we get from watching, which we all know is pretty damn close to E as it is.
Place witty signature here.
How does this effect his Elias ranking?
As it pertains to A, B status etc?
Obviously, you are not a golfer.
Option should definitely be picked up
I’m assuming he will get top medical care, and the thumb will be as good as new by next spring. Why wouldn’t it? Other players have had this surgery and emerged as good as they were before the surgery.
Wanna discuss something contrary to popular belief?
This offseason might be the PERFECT time to extend him for, say 2012-2014 or so. That would take him to age 34 right? Skillset may stay mostly intact, considering his body type, etc. If DDJ were willing, this injury obviously decreases his market value somewhat, and considering the uncertainty, he might bite on something like 3-20m guaranteed. DDJ performing at, say 90% of his current level could conceviably constitute a bargain at that price.

If Moustakas becomes a star or the Royals obtain a bonafide slugger
I could see DeJesus being a valuable player on such a team.
More Ankiel! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!
I LOVE this outfield!
LF – Pods
CF – Ankiel
RF – Guillen
4th OFer – Bloomquist
5th OFer – Maier
6th OFer – Gordon

These are the saddest of possible words
Pods and Ankiel and Guillén
Royals outfielders who stink like dog turds
Pods and Ankiel and Guillén
Playing like the boy in the bubble
Turning routine fly balls into doubles
Couldn’t knock down the ball with a shovel
Pods and Ankiel and Guillén.

I am devastated.
I’m gonna wear my DeJesus jersey in mourning.
This sucks. Glad Gordon got called up, though. So who’s going down when we activate the pitcher?

What I fear most now
is the possibility that Moore will suddenly freeze up and not pull the trigger on trading any of the actual deadwood on the roster, for fear of “depleting” an OF that sadly needs depleting at the moment.

Hosey will be traded
Somebody needs a semi-slugger RBI guy who can’t play the field. We won’t get much for him, but he’s gone. The shock move that might happen would be Soria for a raft of prospects. We’re not trading Billy and Zack, and no one wants any of the rest of our players. Not even Moore is dumb enough to trade Gordon.

If somebody offered something intriguing I could see moving Gordon
But I doubt anyone would. Better off to just see what he gives us the rest of the year.
Who the hell wants Farnsworth?
Just imagine all the fun rally cat will have with the ball of twine we get back for him. Totally worth it.
Farnsworth is having a good year
relief pitching is always a need.
