Breaking down the 25-man roster
Just did a quick and dirty analysis of the 25-man roster to determine who's likely to/should be dealt before the upcoming trade deadline. Some of this is pretty obvious, but I kinda wanted to get the consensus opinion on the options in the next week. No one's ranked in any order, just debate the categorization.
Trade
Brian Bannister
Bruce Chen
Kyle Farnsworth
Joakim Soria
Willie Bloomquist
Scott Podsednik
Jose Guillen
Nobody wants them
Kyle Davies
Dusty Hughes
Victor Marte
Kanekoa Texeira
Jason Kendall
Yuniesky Betancourt
Wilson Betemit
Chris Getz
Rick Ankiel
Mitch Maier
Won't be traded
Zack Greinke - riots would ensue
Sean O'Sullivan - just traded for him
Robinson Tejeda - don't think many teams believe in him as much as GMDM does.
Blake Wood - too young
Brayan Pena - combination of not enough PT and lack of talent
Mike Aviles - Too cheap and talented. Just don't think he's going anywhere
Billy Butler - not happening
Alex Gordon - not happening

I would transfer
Chen, Bloomquist, and probably Guillen to the “Nobody Wants Them” list. About the only way we get rid of Guillen is if Sabean gets desperate and/or dumb. Also, I don’t think I’ve heard of a single rumor about Bannister, come to think of it.
Podsednik would seem to be the best bet to actually leave town. I’m not sure that Moore really wants to trade Soria, even though he should.

At this point, it almost has to be Guillen for a PTBNL.
Once again he was out in the field last night and couldn’t get to a ball that would have been routine for the majority of right fielders.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Who cares?
It’s a trade. As long as they pick up some of his salary, we can finally play Kila and it’s a win.
No, I agree with you.

If we're willing to eat the money
Teams will want Guillen.

Don't trade Soria
We own him till 2014, right? We’re supposed to compete in 2012, right? He’s cheap and good, right? Why would you trade him away? What could you get that would be better?
I would convert him to a starter. He’s done it in the past, and a #2 starter is more valuable than a great closer.
Guillén is tradeable. He is hitting pretty well this year. Someone will give us some garbage for him. Good riddance. Pods might be tradeable as well. Farnsy has good stats this season, and some desperate team will need a reliever.
You know, Chen looks like a pretty decent pitcher, at least on the MLBtv highlights that I watch. We’ve seen worse. Tejeda is surprisingly competent as well. I don’t think any team would give us anything good for either of them, so they’re untradeable.
Betemit is not a bad Mark Teahen, at least not for the price. I thought he’d be worse than he has been.
Does anyone think any other team would trade for Willie Bloomquist? Who could possibly want such a bad player? OK, he’s versatilely bad. But any 22-year-old kid who can play short could probably handle the rest of the positions as well as Willie, as well as the pinch-running duties.

Keep Soria right where he is
I agree not to trade Soria. It would just be mind numbing to the fans and why trade one of the best closers in baseball for an unproven even if top flight minor leaguer. Also please don’t convert him to a starter. Like Mariano Rivera, he has two great pitches and would have to develop two more pitches to start. Also his arm strength is a question as a starter. We have tons of SP prospects in the minors and not many closers except for possibly Louis Coleman.
I believe that you are underestimating the value of a great closer. Who do we close with? Blake Wood? He is fine right where he is. If anything, I would sign him to an extension.
He Has Four
Good pitches at least. Durability is the big question.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

well, 3 good pitches.
His curve has been bad last year and this year.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
