If we move Guillen...
Like a lot of you (most? all?) I am hoping beyond hope that Jose Guillen is not on the team come Sunday afternoon. Also hope Scott Podsednik gets the boot outta here.
These seem to be the only two likely trades to be made ... someone correct me if I'm wrong. Farnsworth probably isn't going to be pitchable until after Saturday, so we can scratch him, Meche and obviously DeJesus off the list.
So, who comes up A) if Guillen is sent packing, and B) Podsednik?

no chance of Parraz?
I don’t know which you’d put in LF, but he just seems more ready than Lough.

Agree
Parraz is a little better right now.
I can see them using Willie B. for the outfield and bring up another infielder that they find deserving, perhaps an Ed Lucas.
We need 13 pitchers!

after the past few games
it might not hurt to have that Anderson kid around

Lough isn't on the 40-man
So if the player(s) that comes back from the Guillen trade doesn’t take Jose’s spot on the 40-man roster, Parraz would be the most obvious answer. Really, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took a pitcher, but who knows.

Trading Guillen and Pods would open up two 40 man roster spots though

Right, but you get something back for them.
Just depends who that is.

Well, I really don't think Jose is going to reap a player going on the 40-man roster.
Thinking we’ll be lucky to get a live arm in low A.
Pods could be different, though.

Nobody's mentioned Ankiel
I guess nobody would want him. What a waste of money. I bet he signs a minor-league contract for next season and ends up as somebody’s fourth outfielder. At best. At worst he’s out of baseball.

Unfortunately
that sort of scenario (Royals are a guy’s last stop before he’s out of baseball) seems to have become a tradition.

Next year will probably be Kendall's last in the big leagues
Pods will probably sign a minor-league contract and be somebody’s fourth outfielder, just because his grit factor is so high, but after 2011 he’s probably done, too. Farnsy will sign a minor-league contract and pitch a year or two more. Bloomy will sign a minor-league contract and make the club due to his all-around grittiness. Pencil him in for three more years of suckitude off the bench for some team(s). Guillén will sign an incentive-laden contract with someone like the Phillies or White Sox, but he’s probably effectively done after this year. Meche will not play next year, and is probably done now.
What a raft of ballplayer wreckage. You know that painting by Gericault?

Do you mean Ankiel?
Pods will probably sign a minor-league contract
I have a hard time thinking Pods wont get a 1-2 year deal after 2009-2010
Someone might sign him
Sure hope it isn’t Dayton.

At the moment, yes
although the Royals would be crazy to offer him arbitration

Yeah that was the second part.
How much would he make in arb? 4 million?
I fully expect Moore to try to sign Pods for another year or two
To be clear – I’m NOT for this, just predicting what will happen based on how Moore has operated in the past. He doesn’t believe in any young prospects unless they are widely heralded, and we don’t have any OFs in the system that fit that description that are remotely ready now.
I’d rather see the ABs go to Lough or Parraz, even if they are deemed only partially ready for it.

So...
I hate to do this to our pitching staff, but IF they were to trade Pods and NOT Guillen instead, I’d rather they move Guillen to RF to make room for Kila ABs. Our team defense will suffer – but it sucks anyway. Explain why you are doing it (privately) to each pitcher, and explain that to the extent Guillen causes their results to suffer, the team will not hold that against them in future contract talks.

trading one of them = Kila
trading both = ???
hopefully Ed Lucas, who i hope can be the utility dude next year.

What about BloomGetz?
I’m sure Lucas probably COULD be. The question, as always however, is whether Dayton is finally going to start using guys from his own system to plug those easy-to-fill roles, or whether he just can’t help himself from going out and getting the latest, gritty-but-crappy veteran du jour?

Teams are generally set at catch by now
The Rangers asked about him before acquiring Molina, but apparently Dayton said “not available.”

My HOPE is that Moore and Yost see how bad we're doing right now...
…and they say “f**k it—let’s once-and-for-all bring up the kids and GO YOUNG—we can’t do any worse than we’re doing right now.”
