What's with Markakis

I was actually thinking about that...

It would be ideal to time everything just right so that we’re in first place in the AL Central at the time of the draft, and we draft 1 or 2 overall. It would be just like the ’08 Rays.

But now he’s a crummy outfielder instead of a below average 3rd baseman

On the plus side, he has only K'd 2 times since coming up

So, he is at least putting it in play. And he was hitting it hard tonight. Just need to get a few to fall and ………

by Mr. Jones on Jul 29, 2010 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Really?

Because he looks noticeably better to me.

Seriously, not trolling to start an argument – but if you watch his ABs objectively, he is getting in hitting counts more often, avoiding the strikeouts, and hittling line drives at an above average rate since returning. He really has been ridiculously unlucky.

Give it another 150 AB minimum before we start to draw conclusions either way

I agree with you

He has been smashing the ball since he got called back up, but it always seems to be right at someone. That luck is going to start evening out here pretty soon.

by Soria's Unibrow on Jul 30, 2010 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Not sure about smashing, seems like a lot of deep liners that are just looping enough

to let the outfielders get to them. Though I am impressed with his patience and contact so far.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

He Needs To

Go to RF and stay there. He has the range and arm for it.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

by philofthenorth on Jul 30, 2010 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not sure on his arm yet.

I’m sure his arm strength is good enough, but he looks like he needs more reps. He needs to work on setting up a good angle for a throw, getting behind the ball to do so, and his accuracy. I just think his feel for that throw will take time, but he’ll get better at a quick pace.
