For all the things it does wrong

The NBA does the right thing by slotting rookie salaries. I’ve heard that NFL veterans tend to like the idea of it too, especially in wake of the Crabtree ridiculousness.

She thinks she missed the train to Mars; she's out back counting stars.

the way i understand it

the players want rookie salaries cut, the owners want the rookie salaries cut. but the owners want to pocket the saved dollars, while the players want that money going to proven players and retired players. so the players don’t cave in because they’d rather see the money go to rookies that to the owners pockets. and the owners don’t cave in ‘cuz they want to keep the dollars, after all it is a business and that’s what they’re in it for.

Any system which makes a 21 year old

who has never even set foot on a professional field (practice or otherwise) THE HIGHEST PAID PLAYER AT THAT POSITION IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE probably needs a little adjustment.

I think if NFL players do that they are making a mistake

Rookie deal is one of the few spots whee NFL players get guaranteed money. RBs already are on the heap at 30. They’ll probably do it but NFL owners are getting over on them if they do because the rookie deals are good negotiating tools for veterans. Best thing the players could do for themselves is limit the term of a rookie contract to max 3 years

Wow... Hope he's good.

I also hope they structured the deal correctly so they can take the largest hit in this uncapped year.

I think baseball slotting might get kind of ridiculous, but the NFL needs it badly. I would pass on a “Franchise QB” type at #1 just because I’d have to pay him like he was Peyton Manning before he steps on the field. How ridiculous is that?
