Game 103 Open Thread: Orioles (32-70) at Royals (42-60)
Baltimore Orioles at Kansas City Royals, Jul 30, 2010 8:10 PM EDT
Jake Arrieta v. Sean O`Sullivan.
Arrieta was once (still is?) considered something of a top prospect and has a 1.85 ERA at AAA this year. The results have not been there at the Major League level yet, as he's walking more men that he's striking out. That'll never happen to one of our guys though.

Fair enough.
It would be kind of unfair since those batters aren’t as used to breaking pitches, and probably gives a better overall view of their talent instead of them relying on a slider to strike guys out. Seems to be some benefit at least.
I think they do it mostly for relief on the elbow

I tried to throw a splitter in HS didn't work
a friend threw it pretty effectively real heavy pitch to catch

I love pitching fads
although sojmetimes the pitch stays, it just gets a new name
I swear when I was growing up people threw things like palmballs, circle changes, forkballs, etc
circle change is still around but now everyone just calls it a change up
but pretty much everyone throws it with that circle grip
Checkout Royals minor league notes at www.14for77.blogspot.com
Forkballs Are Gripped
A little deeper.in the fingers and are not thrown as hard. I was just reading about this. Apparently they’re hard on elbows, and this has resulted in a lot of surgery, particularly in Japan. I think the splitter has a lot the same effect.

I threw a beanball.
I only pitched once ever. I played SS for our little league team, but I never pitched, and it started to rain. I was put in because the coach knew it was gonna get called early and he didn’t want to waste a pitcher. Beautiful strategy.

Our dvd set of the 85 World Series arrived today. Anybody else gotten it yet?
My husband has been watching it since the moment he unwrapped it, which he did as soon as the UPS guy handed it over. I’m not sure he’ll settle for 2010 Royals baseball for a while after this. But we do have tickets to the 8/17 game, so hopefully he’ll recover in time to get our “C’mon Chen” shirts.
OK, It's A
Ridiculously SSS, but Gordon is batting .116 vs RHP this season (5-43), but he’s batting

Doesn’t Kearns suck?
Stuck following the Royals since 1976.
Kearns is having a solid year.
Don’t know where plays. Not CF.

Maier followed by Getz is my favorite 9-1 in the lineup this year

Alright, lead off walk - that is always a run when the opponents get one
Guess the last inning disproved this theory.
I think he has looked pretty good.
Okay, well maybe we should tell that to Rain Man, because he practically bankrupted a casino, and he was a ri-tard.

that just leaves a #2, #3, #4 still needed

That makes it even worse, because he showed it and missed so they were playing in
He had no shot at getting a hit on a bunt there
OT topic but thinking of below average players here
Do you think when the rosters are expanding in September that Lucas May and B. Pena will get a chance to play at all instead of the base to base mentality of General Kendall?
But Kendall
is the glue that holds this ramshackle team together!
by powderbluepower on Jul 30, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions
No way
Kendall demands to maintain his over 90% playing time stat.
by Soria's Unibrow on Jul 30, 2010 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions
I am beginning to think that Kendall is Yoda and performing the mind trick on Yost
With Trey, it didn’t surprise me. Yost is a former catcher. He needs to be able to develop those young guys like May and Pena. I would think it would be a strength for Ned.
Bunting with one out in the middle of the game is not smart baseball
Why do people keep saying Kendall is so veteran savvy?
Ryan
took some time there to talk about the determination in Kendall’s face. Which will get us to the playoofs.
- "But Frank, that's the worst shortstop in the league."

You have to reward a sacrifice bunt somehow
Effusive praise about his grittiness is how he did it this time.
