Royals Win On Alex Gordon Walkoff Homer
Be happy for the guy. Be happy.
Gordon hadn't homered as a Royals since April 21. Nevertheless, he still has less than 70 PAs in the Majors this season. He's played in 19 games, started just 16. I know I'm definitely not the guy to be saying this, but can we hold off on the jokes about him until at least he gets to 100 PAs?
Also: Royals-Orioles, they can't both lose.
These have been two of the worst played games I've seen all season. Bad pitching, bad fielding, players running into outs, bad bunt calls, bad bunt execution. Just awful baseball. What's the Oriole Outfield's success rate on handling the ball without bobbling it? 50%?

This makes up for the last week of crap baseball for me
Been watching Alex for a long time. Glad to see him get a big hit
...and they put a picture of that homeplate celebration on the 2009 calendar magnet...
…which is still on my fridge right now.
Just got home and looked at the picture… DeJesus coming in to stomp on the plate, as teammates wait to mob him: Gordon, Butler, Bannister, Buck, E. German, TPJ, R. Gload, and a couple guys whose identity is obscured. That was a while ago.
Does that include walk off hits other than home runs?

I think so.
Rany backs it up and says it’s the third such hit in Royals history.
I’ve watched 2 of the moments live (DDJ and Gordon), and the third was a long freakin’ time ago. I’m only 30, and I don’t think I would have been old enough to remember it, or watch it. I wanna say the first time was somewhere in the 1980-85 range.
It was 1973.

here's one,...
Saturday July 17, 1976 sitting in General Admission out in the left field corner I saw George Brett hit a walk off shot into the visitors bullpen to break a 1-1 tie with the Red Sox.
Luis Tiant lost a complete game that day.
I guess it doesn’t count, it wasn’t a “losing-to-winning” walk off homer.
Christ, you don't need a quadrophonic Blaupunkt! What you need is a curveball! In the show, everyone can hit heat.

According to Rany...
That was just the 3rd “Do-Or-Die” homer – walk-off homer with 2 outs and team losing – in the 42-year history of the Kansas City Royals.
Has Rany given the proper credit to GMDM yet?
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball...Rock Chalk Talk
Rany was calling Gordon's at-bats all night
And he was calling them outs. Oddly enough, he didn’t call the last at-bat. Seemed like Rany was being quite negative about A-Gord.

I think so; he's at best an above average closer.
You get the impression that Ramos was fairly expendable to the organization for obvious reasons, but that’s not the way to cash in. There are far worse options than Rauch.

I am freaking thrilled for Alex Gordon.
I want good things to happen for him on the field. Because that really increases the odds of good things happening for the Royals. Woo hoo!
Still can’t believe he did that.
This has to overtake the Strasburg game

Let's hope that this gets him going
I’d really love to finally see some success at the ML level from a guy who’s supposed to be part of the future. (Kila doing the same would be almost too good to imagine.)

I think we're all thrilled.
I think this game will set him on a course for a lot of success. He’s freakin’ talented guys. I don’t understand all the hating, but I’m glad the Royals are giving him the chance to redeem himself and get on with his career.

He Hits Rockets
And always has. He seems to have figured a few things out, but I’m not sure he needed the sojourn in Omaha to do it. The position change is looking stupider by the minute. Mous would be a fine LF, and Gordon was a good enough 3B. There seem to be serious doubts about Mous sticking at 3B, so then what? Mike Lowell at last

Jose Guillen's celebration of his 300th double
Mark Carman tells us that Jose Guillen was trying to give his 300th double ball away to a reporter after the game, and then reacted to the idea of putting it in the Royals Hall of Fame by saying “Why would I do that?”

So glad for him...
Armchair psychoanalysis of post-game interview: He really seems like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders and was more relieved than anything about the HR. Here’s hoping that he can stay healthy and stay at one position. I feel like some stability will do him wonders.
Ditto.
And as far as the weight on his shoulders thing, I think that’s why I like his O-Royals picture on Gameday. I hope they do keep it all year. He actually looks happy instead of like the guy on whose back everyone wanted to thrust the franchise and didn’t know how the hell to handle that.
I'll bet that Alex can't wait
for guys like Moustakas and Hosmer to get up there. Finally he’ll have someone else to bear some of those unreasonable and ridiculous expectations.

I didn't watch most of it, but I turned it to the game right at the end and saw Ankiel take the walk.
I was pretty sure we were gonna win after that (Ankiel doesn’t walk, it was fate), and I went crazy when Gordon hit the homer.
Am I crazy or does the postgame writeup text keep changing every few minutes?

Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
Oh, sure
I finally break free of the gawd awful Royal spell and take a night off. Went to the drive in to see a Inception/Knight and Day combo. One movie meant to be outlandish and zany, the other did not. Nice night. Good to get out. And of course, it had to be the night the Royals do something heroic. Son of a bitch. Glad it happened to Gordon, though. Must of felt like the dude finally popped his cherry.
Place witty signature here.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch
Wilson Betemit is a professional baseball player! The pro/anti Gordon thing seems to have brought out a Hatfield vs. McCoy response in Royal fandom……but Betemit is quietly flying under the radar hitting .367.
Going to the game tomorrow. Would be nice to see something similar to tonight’s game.
I am also
but I’d settle for a 10-0 laugher in our favor.
