I know it is just a few PA for Kila, but I went to look at how his plate approach has been since making it to the majors. The only bit of information I could find for someone known for his plate discipline is that he is having problems laying of low breaking balls, especially sliders.

I’m curious what count he’s in when he goes down for those. Early in the count he’s got to spit on those (and, frankly, based upon his historical approach he’s also going to let strikes go by if they aren’t his pitch). But, once he’s done that, he may find himself in a pitcher’s count and also have a reminder that he’s not getting the call on close ones in the Majors… so he’s got to expand a little bit… probably more than he’s used to doing. If so, I would expect an adjustment period while he figures out which marginal pitches he has to swing at with 2 strikes.
Of course, there’s already a sample size issue here, and getting more granular (i.e. by adding the count) is only going to make it worse… we’ll just have to wait and see.
hhhmmmmmm sliders...

Given enough velocity even a pig will fly

We're all very anxious to have something to analyze from Kila
something to look at and say “hey, he’s the same guy, just unlucky!” But we don’t really have anything yet. He took another walk last night against a good pitcher, so that’s good. And a broken bat blooper fell in for a hit, so that’s good. Right now, I just like watching his at-bats because I know he’s a professional hitter.
On a side note, how about the first pitch swinging against CC last night? Ended up giving CC a near complete game. Great strategy.
