Sitting here thinking about what the 2011 Royals will look like and where we may need to fill some (short-term) holes on the roster. Someone else did a fanshot but thought I'd go a little deeper:
Salary numbers approximate; I did my best estimates of arb values
C Kendall (2.75)
C Pena/May (400k)
1B Butler (3.00)
2B Getz (400k)
SS Betancourt (3.00)
U Aviles (400k)
U Lucas (400k)
3B Betemit (1.00)
LF Gordon (2.00)
CF DeJesus (6.00)
RF Maier (400k)
OF Blanco (400k)
DH Ka'aihue (400k)
SP Greinke (13.50)
SP Hochevar (2.50)
SP Davies (3.00)
SP O'Sullivan (400k)
SP TBD
RP Meche (12.00)
RP Tejeda (2.00)
RP Hughes (400k)
RP Wood (400k)
RP Coleman (400k)
RP TexeiraHolland/TBD (400k)
CL Soria (4.00)
Total: $63.05 million. Assuming the payroll for 2011 is $73 million, this leaves $10 million to fill an opening for one SP and a bullpen arm. In-house options would include Chen and Blaine Hardy. I predict we keep Davies and let Bannister go (Davies is younger, has more upside, and may cost less). I am also making the assumption that we get something out of Meche in the bullpen, but obviously that's a huge if; this may lead to another bullpen arm being picked up or perhaps we use another guy like Humber or Bullington.
Thoughts?
