Clint Robinson played LF on the 19th for the Naturals

Do you think this means Hos is less likely to play in the OF?

Hosmer-related decisions aren't affected by Clint Robinson

I think Hosmer sticks at 1B. He could always attempt a move in the majors or AAA, but he projects as a better 1B than Kila or Billy. Having a 1B who is above average defensively and who hits well is pretty awesome.

If Kila and Billy are both hitting well you can always trade one.

I don’t think anything about Clint Robinson affects or has anything to do with Hosmer’s future.

And I think the fact that the Royals haven’t played Hosmer in the OF in the minors at all means he’s very unlikely to ever play in the OF for the KC Royals.

It Seems Kind

Of short-sighted of them not to even try him in the OF. I mean, they tried Butler, and from all accounts Hosmer is lightyears ahead of him in athleticism. It’s not like our system is full of great OF prospects.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Agreed

We have few positions filled by people who actually hit like a major leaguer….

Apparently they decided early that he doesn't have the tools for the OF (rightly or wrongly)

And, FWIW, I think it was Allard Baird’s administration that moved Butler from 3B to the OF. Now of course Moore didn’t immediately move Butler out of the OF, but I think that shows the power of inertia. When a guy’s already there, it’s easy to go with it for a while. But I think in general, Dayton Moore and his people are loathe to put prospects in defensive positions where it looks like they’d be below average defenders (even if this might mean a greater total value for the player).

Devil's Advocate, more'n anything:

First, from a previous comment:

Alex Gordon would like a word.

Hey, the same could be said for Hosmer, right? Maybe he’s only hanging around at 1B because he’s already there. Inertia is inertia.

I am now channeling Will McDonald's optimism.

From What I

Hear, he’s pretty good at 1B. This would tend to amplify the inertia. Moore needs to think of what’s best for the team, not each individual player. I think Gordon is showing us he could handle RF, I’m pretty sure Hosmer can handle LF, and with those two on the corners we could afford a good D no hit CF if necessary. We seem to have one or two of those in house. If we’re going to keep Billy, he’s not going to be happy at DH. If Kila can stick for a few years, I’m sure he would be happy to DH in KC rather than playing 1B in Omaha. If he doesn’t, DHs are not hard to find.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

First, I stand by “very unlikely.” The fact that the Royals organization moved one player doesn’t mean that it is now likely that they’ll start moving other corner IFers to the OF. Second, as far as the defensive spectrum goes, moving from 3B to LF is a smaller move than from going from 1B to the OF.

Sure. And this organization appears to move players/prospects from their current defensive positions when they prove that they can’t handle them. Hosmer appears to be handling his position defensively quite well.

i think its more of giving robinson a chance to make it to the majors at some point....

he’s not gonna have a chance at 1b with Billy already entrenched and Hosmer at the same level

exactly

with Billy/Kila/Hosmer, Clint is not a 1B in KC. LF gives him a shot if he can handle it.
