Minor League Playoff Races
A quick update on the MILB playoff races and how the Royals affiliates are looking after the break...
PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE (AAA) NORTH DIVISION
| Club | W | L | PCT | GB | *ELIM # | Home | Away | L 10 | Streak | |
| <!-- Iowa -->Iowa | 76 | 58 | .567 | - | - | 37-31 | 39-27 | 6-4 | L1 | |
| <!-- Memphis -->Memphis | 76 | 59 | .563 | 0.5 | 10 | 44-25 | 32-34 | 8-2 | W5 | |
| <!-- Omaha -->Omaha | 74 | 61 | .548 | 2.5 | 8 | 36-31 | 38-30 | 5-5 | W1 | |
| <!-- Nashville -->Nashville | 71 | 63 | .530 | 5.0 | 6 | 38-31 | 33-32 | 7-3 | W1 |
The O-Royals are only 2.5 games back, but have to jump a red-hot Memphis, as well as catch Iowa. They have 9 games remaining and only one left (Sunday) against Iowa in Omaha. Then they have a 4 game series at home vs. lowly Round Rock (55-80) and finish with 4 games on the road against likely playoff team Oklahoma City (70-62).
Another bonus is that Memphis and Iowa finish the season with a 4 game series, making a come from behind division crown still possible.
TEXAS LEAGUE (AA) NORTH DIVISION
| Club | W | L | PCT | GB | *ELIM # | Home | Away | L 10 | Streak | |
| * | <!-- NW Arkansas -->NW Arkansas | 37 | 24 | .607 | - | - | 19-9 | 18-15 | 6-4 | L1 |
| <!-- Tulsa -->Tulsa | 35 | 26 | .574 | 2.0 | 8 | 15-11 | 20-15 | 7-3 | W3 | |
| <!-- Springfield -->Springfield | 34 | 27 | .557 | 3.0 | 7 | 17-16 | 17-11 | 6-4 | W1 | |
| <!-- Arkansas -->Arkansas | 27 | 34 | .443 | 10.0 | E | 13-20 | 14-14 | 5-5 | L3 |
The Naturals have already clinched the playoffs due to their first half, first-place finish, but they are going for the rare double of winning both halves. They will host the first two games of the first-round playoffs on September 8th and 9th at Arvest Stadium.
CAROLINA LEAGUE (A+) NORTHERN DIVISION
| Club | W | L | PCT | GB | *ELIM # | Home | Away | L 10 | Streak | |
| <!-- Potomac -->Potomac | 33 | 26 | .559 | - | - | 16-13 | 17-13 | 5-5 | W3 | |
| <!-- Wilmington -->Wilmington | 32 | 28 | .533 | 1.5 | 8 | 14-13 | 18-15 | 5-5 | L1 | |
| <!-- Lynchburg -->Lynchburg | 29 | 31 | .483 | 4.5 | 6 | 13-19 | 16-12 | 6-4 | W1 | |
| * | <!-- Frederick -->Frederick | 28 | 34 | .452 | 6.5 | 4 | 14-17 | 14-17 | 2-8 | L5 |
Thanks to an influx of talent in the 2nd half, Wilmington is right in the thick of the playoff hunt with 9 games remaining. They have only one road game remaining (tomorrow at Lynchburg) and then finish the season with 8 home dates. Four are vs. Myrtle Beach (29-33) and 4 are against 1st half division winner Frederick, who have really stumbled of late losing their last five (28-34) overall. Being only 1.5 GB puts Wilmington in a good spot, particularly since Potomac ends with a 6/4 road/home game split.
MIDWEST LEAGUE (A) WESTERN DIVISION
| Club | W | L | PCT | GB | *ELIM # | Home | Away | L 10 | Streak | |
| <!-- Quad Cities -->Quad Cities | 37 | 23 | .617 | - | - | 12-14 | 25-9 | 5-5 | W1 | |

how dumb
The Naturals should win the division outright if they win both halves.
Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
Who would they play if they win both halves?
The 2nd place team? That would be lame. Of course, I’m sure the more playoff tickets the team can sell, the better.
They could play All-Stars from the other teams
to determine the home field advantage for Opening Day.
Or something.
I'm definitely going to try to make the NW Series in the playoffs.
hopefully they end up playing more than one series…
The ARZ Royals are in it too… what’s the status on them?
I'm trying a blog. It's about the Royals of course but more of a mechanical analysis type thing about players I see. Try it and let me know what you think! Scouting the Royals
ARZ Royals
I believe they are a 1/2 game out with Texas (current leader) playing a makeup game tonight. If Texas loses, the two teams would finish in a tie and I assume have a 1 game playoff.

Maybe the virtual 1st half Naturals, lead by Moose,
can play the virtual 2nd half Naturals, lead by Hosmer

Hmmm.... good idea.
Who wins? Clint Robinson at 1B for one and DHing for the other.

This also got me thinking about 1981
Was it the Expos who had the best record in their division that year, but didn’t win either “half” and had to sit out the ML playoffs?

No, the Expos were shortchanged by the strike-shortened '94
when they were way out ahead of everybody.
Perhaps you’re thinking of the Cardinals and the Reds, both with the best season-long record in their respective divisions in 1981, neither finishing first in either half. The Expos were one of the beneficiaries of the split schedule that year.
Thanks -
you would think I would have remembered that, since it screwed the Cardinals!
This changes my opinion on that split season – I now see it as a brilliant decision by the commissioner!

The Burlington Royals qualified on Monday night as wild card.
Simmons, Avinazar and Santiago have done a good job in the rotation. Offense is nothing much to speak of – don’t think they have many regulars who will go beyond A ball. Robert Penny has done well out of the bullpen.
Santiago is kind of an unsung
isn’t he?
