No lawn, it's awesome

Driveway, patio, porch, garage. No need for a yard. Toss the pigskin or baseball around? Clearly that’s what a street is for.

Does this still mean Brayan gets 1/3?

Or does this mean Lucas gets to cut in even more on Kendall?

Most likely everyone called up will DH for Kila (Meche included)

This.

When you compare mud to shit you’ll pick mud every time…unless you want fertilizer or have some weird fetish. Anyway, it’s all relative. Sort of like the recent discussion about Yuni (read: the Yunigma). He seems horrible, but, offensively, compared to the average AL SS, he’s not that bad. Relativity is the rule. Well, that and the fact that no catcher should start 92% of games behind the dish.

indeed

I doubt anyone thinks hes the next Johnny Bench.
But we have all seen him handle the pitching staff well this year, show improved defense, and flashes of the offense he’s shown in the past.

Maybe not Johnny Bench, but when you would be substituting one of the worst players for an average(or likely slightly above average guy) it can sure feel like it.

I make such statements

out of frustration from people taking Kila and Gordon (and whoever else) not playing all the time as a personal insult. I’m no baseball genius but neither is anyone else here. Go ahead and give them a shot, but sticking them in and leaving them regardless of the circumstances or results is absurd. Everybody is an amateur GM (me included) and we all suck at it.

There are really two independent considerations -- free agency and arbitration

First off, the assumptions for the following scenarios are that (a) the prospect has no prior MLB service time and (b) the prospect never goes back to the minors (except on injury rehab).

Free Agency: To get the “extra” year out of the player before he becomes a free agent, the team would have to wait about two weeks into the season before calling up a player. This would prevent the player from incurring a full season of service time for 2011 (172 days = one year of service time) and thus delay free agency by a year. Evan Longoria is a good example here.

Arbitration: To avoid a player from obtaining “Super Two” status and being eligible for arbitration before the player has three full years of MLB service time, the team would need to wait until approximately June before calling up the player. This would prevent the player from incurring more than 125 days of service time for 2011. Historically, the earliest cutoff for Super Two eligibility has been two years, 125 days of MLB service time. Super Two status has no effect on when a player become a free agent, but just means the player will get paid more, as he would be arbitration eligible four times before free agency instead of the usual three. As you mention, Stanton and Strasburg are good recent examples.

I would bet its the younger ones that would be calling for him

Nothing wrong with letting him finish out the season in Omaha, putting him thru spring training, going back to Omaha and getting him up to KC (hopefully for good) around the first of July. I would think they’ve gotten off that rushing people to the majors fetish they had after they saw the results from doing it in the past.

I always have a hard time knowing what to do with Brayan Pena

Batting sixth seems high, but with Kila above him I don’t know if I want to necessarily put Gordon there. I mean, I guess it’s about as good as it gets with who’s in the lineup, but I just don’t think I’d want to bat Pena sixth. Then again, the order of the lineup doesn’t matter that much blah blah blah…

Depends on what the topic is. They're colorful

they come in different shapes – kids can wear them, collect them and/or trade them.

My kids love the things as well.

I don’t know who’s the genius that came up with the idea to make a mint off of shaped rubber bands, but I wish I had that kind of vision.

Could be a evaluation issue

They had been putting Holland in quite a bit too, as they have to make a choice about the 40-man.

Chavez was clearly a throw in when we traded for Blanco and Collins — if this means they cut him in the offseason, I’m OK with watching him implode.

I fear they might actually like him.

by bas on Aug 31, 2010 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions

The point isn't to win games this year.

It’s to get a better draft pick. Jesse Chavez is going to single handedly improve their draft picks by at least 2-3 slots per round.

by AxDxMx on Aug 31, 2010 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I kind of wonder about that
