Dear Mr. Meche:

Dear Gil,

The most recent stories around Kansas City tell of an interesting plan for your remaining 1+ years in a Royals uniform. It has been mentioned that you will once again forgo shoulder surgery, and attempt to contribute to our team through the bullpen. I believe this is a very bad idea. At best you could have average results in middle relief on a team that has zero percent chance of winning anything over the next 15 months. At worst, you waste 15 months as an ineffective relief pitcher, then have the surgery and rehab as a FA. Once healthy, you will have far more doubters than supporters, which in turn will result ina minor league deal with a team and a chance to make a team. The Media has praised you for honor and integrity. I believe your present health issues can be pinned on you as well as the Royals. Many believe you are a stand up guy. If this is true than I have a better plan for you and our beloved Royals.

Have your shoulder surgery tomorrow. Follow that up with signing a one year extension for 500k. With a $8 million dollar mutual option for 2013. Not only does this allow for you to reward the Royals for their money spent, it also allows you to rehab and work through an organization to regain your career. 2013 could be special around here, and we would like you to have a chance at being apart of it with us.
