Defense was definitely the difference in this game

Incredibly soft 2 run inning for Texas in the 1st – a leadoff walk, that runner was actually out stealing, but the ump missed the call, the a bloop hit to CF that, in my opinion (and Paul Splitorff’s too) should have been caught, and a 4 hopper to LF that a normal 3B could have got as well.

Meanwhile, as you allude to, Murphy saved 2 runs with a helluva catch.

That got me thinking about what could be called a continuous pattern for the Royals:

One dimensional players. If we have a guy who can hit, he is below avg defensively (Butler, Callaspo, Betemit, etc.) If we have a guy who can field, he can’t hit enough to justify playing (Tony Pena, perhaps Maier and G Blanco, etc.)

Try naming a Royal who is actually a plus-player at both offense and defense. One could argue that the list begins and ends with DDJ.

Maybe you've never used facebook

Jason Kendall? Great defense catcher who knows how to handle a bat.

Yuni? 15 home runs and plus hands.

In all seriousness though, I’d rank Greinke number 2. Great D for a pitcher, and he can hit. That’s a serious statement.

Players that have more than one talent aren't on the leftover pile that's available to the Royals.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

The Blanco on the Rangers

that’s the same Andres Blanco that used to be on the Royals, isn’t it? TPJJ Sr?

Unless I'm wrong...
