Ground out, strike out, ground out- welcome to the Show, Dan Cortes. He topped out at 98 MPH in his 7th inning MLB debut.
The Mariners' Twitter feed seems to still be working, so they got that goin' for them, which is nice. Any report on Cortes' bladder control?

Right now
Cortes would be the second or third best reliever in the Royals bullpen
Yuni does that combo all the time
What's the big deal?

Ah..good memories of the "Dan Cortes will never amount to anything in the big leagues so this trade is no big deal. It's a wash at worst" days...

Lolz
Scout was teeming with them. That and the “Yuni is an upgrade, that means its good” brigade. Many dissenters too of course.
Wisely, they don’t keep archives over there so embarrassment is spared.

Of course not
Good posters such as RoyalsRetro, LexingtonRoyal, JoakimTough, Chitown, SpringtownRoyal, and others were among those dissenters.
They have since (appropriately) banished from that board…only to be overtaken by folks who believe Joakim Soria is the MVP of the team this year and Yuniesky Betancourt has better value than David Ortiz. ::(

Retro made that statement?
That actually surprises me.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

No, I was citing the "good posters"
…who have mysteriously disappeared from that board after the banishment of another “good poster” (KingKirkpatrick). Was he abrasive at times? Perhaps…but certain posters deserved calling out and with KK they got it.
Now, it’s a hot-bed for information but as far as the quality of its opinions, it is far surpassed by this site.

Boy you must smoke way too much pot to have a memory THAT bad.
Not saying every single Royals fan was saying it or anything, but there was CLEARLY a significant portion of them that were trotting out that exact logic.

there really wasn't
unless you’re talking about the fans who have no clue what’s going on. in that case, you win.

well duh.
I didn’t say it was you. I didn’t say it was anyone in particular…I just said that that logic was used quite a bit by people that talk about the Royals on the web…and then you got defensive. As soon as that trade went down, that was the company line by quite a few people. Yes, I would agree that they dont’ know what they are talking about..b/c any Royals “fan” who thinks trading for Yuni is actually a good/decent thing is someone who I would consider clueless.

Giving Anything For
A guy who shouldn’t be on the T-Bones roster made it a bad trade. I remember there was a lot of “At least it wasn’t Butler” rationalizing, too.

I don't really think losing Cortes was that bad of a thing
But, based on his perceived value, I don’t know anyone who thought this was a good trade. It was subtraction through subtraction
batter nine you sucky
Yeah I don't think anyone thought losing Cortes was some crushing blow...
…but I’d rather have him in our pen than Jesse Chavez…..

Cortes is the one who’s throwing gas.

I don't know too many young, athletic kids that don't have pictures like this
It takes a few years, but usually they straighten themselves out a bit. Maybe the trade was a bit of a wakeup call. In that sense, I hope this trade has worked out for Dan Cortes the person.

I would find this even more impressive
If the Rays weren’t no-hit or almost no-hit several times this season.

And yet
they’re likely headed for the playoffs. If there’s a reason to be less impressed it’s that a lot of their regulars were missing.
