Huh
My link didn’t work for some reason (probably that I’m an idiot).
Also in the article, Seitzer and the Royals seem to be developing some advanced stats of their own.
"Mitch is the leader on our club in terms of situational average. For us, 70 percent is ideal, 65 good. Mitch is .830. He’s a natural fit in that No. 2 hole."
The statistic, maintained by Royals hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, measures a batter’s ability to bunt, hit and run, move runners over and drive runners home with the infield in and back. . . .
Kendall ranked second on the team with a figure around .750. He hit .236 with a .298 on-base percentage in the No. 2 hole over 70 games this season.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty leery of any stat that rates MITCH and Kendall first and second. I love MITCH, but I know it’s irrational and that he should not be leading the team in any offensive category. When do we get a fangraphs article on situational average?
It's scary if they're actually using this stat.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Double this.
I wonder how long they had screw around to come up with some bs stat that would rank Kendall highly?

Am I alone in my surprise
that they’re using ANY stat? Even if it’s some crazy made up thing?
So a .700 is ideal, .650 is good
And a guy hitting .236/.298/.266 has a value of .750.
And they were willing to put this in print.
I……I just……There are no words……..
Unless I'm wrong...

Oh, my God
And all of this will magically disappear once the prospects arrive.
If this isn’t a damning indictment on the statistical ineptitude of our front office, I don’t know what is.

What is the qualification?
Among qualifying starters he is 5th in the AL, amongst all pitchers with more than 20 innings he is somewhere around 65th in the AL.
Come on guys. You are always all over the Royals for not using sabermetrics.
Then you make fun of them when they actually use a sabermetric…. even if it’s so far advanced we can’t understand it.
Mitch is a good fit for the two hole. Much better than Kendall…
I'm trying a blog. It's about the Royals of course but more of a mechanical analysis type thing about players I see. Try it and let me know what you think! Scouting the Royals
And at least they have a system in place.
They aren’t just randomly guessing… Phase one: complete… Phase two: Begun…

I'd prefer random guessing over a stat that has Kendall as the ideal #2 hitter.

Or even traditional stats, which clearly show that Kendall sucks.
They absolutely invented a stat that can’t possibly make sense. Every baseball stat commonly used views Kendall as a waste on offense.
Using stats in a very incompetent way is worse than not using them at all
The Royals have been using stats badly throughout Moore’s tenure. Moore, Hillman, Yost and Seitzer have all been quoting misusing stats and showing that they don’t understand them and value the wrong ones.

And IF the royals make an angle change with Davies...
my how good he could be.
