Royals Avoid Sweep Behind Davies Pitching & Alex Gordon Homer
I guess we should still care.
Was Davies good, or merely lucky? Four strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Not many hits allowed. I don't know what the answer is. Do you?
I still think it's insane that Gil Meche is pitching.

No one sweeps us
I do like how good we are at winning close games though. It may be meaningless, but I think that it’s good we don’t buckle under pressure TOO often in close games anymore
But we get blown out to make up for it :(
Now if we could only score enough runs
to make those blowouts close games and these close games blowouts…in our favor

well, as I said in the game thread
I’m happier with Gil pitching, rather than Chavez.

Of course we care
let’s build up those save stats for Soria!
Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
If Alex Gordon were...
…to get one walk, one hit, and one strikeout every game, I’d be very happy with him—-despite being nearly a league leader in SOs—-so long as every hit wasn’t a Kendall-esque single. …Yes, I realize that a .666 OBP would be insane.

if Jason Kendall can play catcher with two tendons torn off the bone and a torn rotator cuff.. Meche can pitch until his arm falls off while he sleeps

OT -- but I just took a look at the Cardinal's fan confidence poll
and it is down to 25%. Oh, how quickly the “best fans in baseball” jump ship.

Davies looked very good from the Dri-Duck seats.
Not particularly lucky at all. Not that many hard hit balls and Butler got him into a jam when he committed a fielding error that should have ended the inning.
If anything, our bats were lucky as we got two hits that we wouldn’t have gotten on a cloudy day, but I suppose Betemits ground rule double might have been a homer on a less windy day.
Meche looked awesome in the 7th. I was a bit surprised Tejeda came out in the 8th. I guess Meche will be the 8th inning guy next year. Judging off this outing I’d be surprised if they try to get 6 outs outta him.

12 million dollar set up man.
It all happens here.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

what are they supposed to do?
yes it sucks and it’s stupid, but blame trey hillman for meche’s arm falling off…our choices are to either let him pitch and get something out of him, or have him go under the knife and get nothing.
BOOM YOSTED!

Agreed
At this point, a 12 mil dollar setup man is better than a 12 mil dollar hospital patient….although I would pay to see a one-handed game of checkers between Meche and Kendall :)

In my opinion, Davies looked good today
He was getting a ton of check swing strikes, so it seems his pitches had a little extra movement today or were breaking closer to the plate. It was kind of windy, so that may have had a part in it.
If only he could get those walks under control.

Maybe he paces just so he can perform well in september when everyone else gets injured

I think Davies got a bit lucky
not super lucky, but 4 Ks in 6 innings is worse than league average, as is 3 BBs. 11 FBs out of 18 batted balls is scary, and 6 Gbs out of 18 is also worse than average.
Coulda been worse, of course.

Some of
Davies stuff looked good. I do agree with MK he did get a bit lucky. Meche is a byproduct of the “process.” GMDM was trying to impressed people with his contract signing skills and his lacky Hillfire was trying to prove he could manage in the bigs. I sincerely hope that two things happen over the off season. The Walmart boys will sell the team to an ownership group led by George Brett and that we will finally see some of the so call “prospects” moved up so to have a legitimate chance to play at the K in 2011.
