Dayton Moore's Incompetence
Many people on here have recently decided that they think based on some of the decisions that DM has made that he is incompetent as a GM. Incompetence means "lacks the necessary skills to do something." If this is true, that DM is truly an incompetent GM, then obviously he should be fired as GM of the Royals.
I'm just curious who all out there thinks that GMDM should be removed as GM of the Royals. Because if you honestly think he is incompetent then you want someone else in his place as of today.

WAIT WAIT
we can’t start discussing this, we still haven’t figured out whether or not the Rangers are the best match for a Greinke trade!

btw, the Rays right now are COMPLAINING that Freidman signed Kotchman to a 750k minor league deal
Sort of a “He’s not good enough” thing. We would be ECSTATIC if Moore had the foresight to sign a 1.) buy low/sell high candidate, to a 2.) minor league contract, and/or 3.) for less than $1M – much less all three of these things.
Our praise for Moore’s “good” ML moves is that they weren’t dumb enough to be ridiculous. What we wouldn’t give to complain like the Rays fans: that a smart signing is not quite smart enough.

Do they not realize
that Casey is one ‘R’ away from being a really sweet, semi-lewd superhero?
Short-sighted.

Sometimes 12 fanposts/fanshots just isn't enough
We’ll need a dozen more before Opening Day.

I think it is very, very likely that he is not a competent GM
However, if I were making the decision tomorrow, I would give him the chance to adopt a more modern (i.e. sabremetric) approach to back up his evaluation of ML talent and value. Also, he has been better as of late. If he weren’t willing to modernize or if I came to the conclusion that he was not actually improving as a GM, yes, I would replace him post haste.

In the "took over as owner" scenario
at the very least, I’d want to investigate. I’d want to figure out who was really doing what at the minor league level, talk to people in the industry, consult people outside it. etc
I concur
I think we need another poll…

If only there were some kind of bracket listing all of Moore's bad moves...

Or a series of "Who are Dayton Moore's potentially greatest rivals for the GM job?" polls.

Judging by the nearly 800 comments
It seems like it was a lot of fun. I think I started to read through it once but then remembered I had a life to live and didn’t need to hear the Battered Wife Syndrome take form on the interwebs.

"No" won 53-46
The market has spoken. At least until the Royals have a bad month this season. Re-poll then and many of the lurkers would flip.

I protest the poll
You failed to include the following option:
“He shouldn’t be fired, but he should be tried by an international tribunal for crimes against humanity.”

Almost added new poll

I think every GM deserves five years
I would fire him a week before the 2011 draft.

+1
If there’s one thing he should be allowed to do for the Royals, it’s officiate over a draft.

That seems to be what RoyalsRetro was referencing, but I was under the impression that billybeingbilly was insinuating that he should be allowed to do the draft before being fired.

The Mets will demand he not be allowed to be involved, though
wait, Sandy Alderson is running the Mets now… they’ll probably insist that Omar HAS to make the Royals fall on their first pick.

I don' think anybody has "Recently decided" GMDM is incompetent
I think many people have held that opinion for a long time…
Matty vastly over-simplified a poll question that I’ve been musing over for a while now…guess mine will wait (at least) until this one drops off the front page…I’m sure you’re all breathless with anticipation…
OH, speaking of things that have been talked about to death…did you guys hear about Greinke’s FanFest appearance in Milwaukee??
So, a lady fan asks Zackk for his Super Bowl pick.
Zackkkk’s response? “I like the Steelers, I hope they win.”
He got booed.
BOOM! ROASTED!
He will regret leaving the cozy confines of KC
For the savage, no-holds-barred media bubble that is Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

This is not enough.
We should have even more thorough polls.
I propose a series of 100 polls of yes no question, in the format of:
Do you think DM is 1% incompetent?
Do you think DM is 2% incompetent?
Do you think DM is 3% incompetent?
.
.
.
Do you think DM is 99% incompetent?
Do you think DM is 100% incompetent?
Each discussion and tally shall takes 5 days. With such vigorous and scientific method we shall finally get to decide his incompetence by the time of the summer of 2012., yes.

“If you all of a sudden took over as owner of the Royals today, would you fire Dayton Moore tomorrow?”
nah, it’s a bit much to expect him to drive to the stadium tomorrow for a meeting. Snow and all

I think he does.
When he was roaming the floor during FanFest, I saw him whip out his Blackberry and look through a bunch of stuff with the random fan he was talking to.
WTF, self?
Well
despite all the snark and bitching in the comments, it’s clear that only a small minority views DM as an incompetent GM.
No, a small percentage want him fired immediately
Nearly half think he’s incompetent.

I fire him after 2012 season...
and not a second later, unless they turn it around.

I Fire Him
Right now if I’m going to do it. I already know who I would hire. This is all theoretical.

So far
The only thing he is incompetent at is adding pieces to a terrible major league team… He has been much more than competent at the most important thing, building a farm system.
Firing him would be absolutely ridiculous at this point.
why?
they’ve done absolutely nothing wrong since Moore was hired. They’ve spent when Moore thought it was necessary. They’ve been one of the highest spenders in the draft. They’re not the problem.

I don't think Glass should fire DM
but when I saw how the question was phrased, I voted yes. If I was owner as of right now, I would immediately make the organization look like what I think an MLB franchise ought to look like. I might consider offering ol’ (former)GM DM a raise to run scouting, but probably not.
Vive la Royalution!
not a bad idea....
but i doubt it’d work…most guys have too big of an ego to take a demotion and stay with the organization….although, minaya just did it with the mets.
