KC Star's Top 40 Prospects
Interesting list. Heavy on people we just drafted. Quite a bit different from Sickles' preliminary top 22, which also came out today

I like the Star's top 10 list better than Sickels's
but what do I know?

Me too
Sickels seems way too high on Bubba, who everyone seems to agree is VERY raw. I do think the Star has Clint Robinson too high. I’m still surprised both have Colon as high as they have him – and I’m a guy that still likes Colon.
Interesting Sickels has Bonicafico 16th, while the Star doesn’t have him at all. To be honest, I’ve never even heard of the kid.
How many BA Top 100 guys do you think we land? I’d guess:
Myers, Odorizzi, Cuthbert, Starling and Montgomery.

Myers, Odorizzi, Cuthbert, Starling and Montgomery.
That seems like a good list. I guess Lamb might still have an outside shot at sneaking in toward the bottom, but I wouldn’t bet on him being there.
5 is still a strong showing
9 was unprecedented. Any guess on where they will rank? Scott, IIRC you thought Myers would be in the 30s and Monty and Odorizzi in the 40s. Sickels clearly believes Bubba is top 50, maybe even top 20 since he has him ahead of everyone else, but it will be interesting to find out what BA thinks. Cuthbert had a shot at top 50 until later in the season, but just having him on the list is a nice surprise.

From recent discussions on this site, I think Myers will be right around 20 and Monty and Odorizzi will both be near 40.

I would think BA would have him in the top 50.

i'd venture a guess that we'll be somewhere between 4 and 8 organizationally....
there’s good depth (not on the tb level)….good high end talent…just not on the same level as last year

JJ Cooper said the Royals are top 10
I will also be interested in which KC prospects are in the bigger pool of 150-200 that BA assembles in the process of creating their top 100.

Bonifacio
Brother of Emilio on the Marlins. Greg Schaum and Clint Scoles mentioned him pretty frequently and it certainly seemed like he was regularly having big games. Let’s see what he can do against tougher competition but the early returns are promising.
I like Brickhouse and Kyle Smith from this year’s draft. I think both of those guys will move up the charts quickly.
While the top 20 or so is very hard to gauge, I think the five players that will likely be in the BA Top 100 are pretty clear cut. I don’t see Dwyer, Lamb, and Colon (from last year) holding their spots and I don’t see anyway you can keep Cuthbert and Starling out.
Do you think they will give any love to Elier Hernandez?
Is it too early? Bonifacio had a very good season this year. Hopefully he moves up the ladder and sees more competition next season.

Probably not
B.A. never ranked $4M teen Dominican bonus baby Michael Ynoa. I think it is rare for them to put just signed 16/17 year old L.A. FA’s who have yet to play minor league ball in the top 100.

What about Miguel Sano?
IIRC they did rank him before he ever played affiliated ball, although I think he was 18.

Yes, he snuck in at #94
There may have been other young teen international signees with no pro experience, but I think it’s quite rare.

Dutton's list
Is probably a very good indication of the org’s internal views. Can’t imagine that the star has the time, resources, or expertise to have opinions on such a thing.

That’s true, if this list came from info from the Royals F.O. The internet shows that all kinds of lists can be created without people putting much time, resources or expertise into it.

Yeah they really are stuck with Dunn
When guys keep getting short term deals, it’s probably not a good idea to be the one to give him multiple years. Unless he displays a golden RF arm, piercing eyes and sudden stolen base skills.

Why is Arguelles so low?
I thought he had a very good year and is considered to have tons of potential.

I don't think he has tons of potential
He showed great control, but had unimpressive strikeout numbers in AA, despite being a supposedly advanced prospect (and likely older than his purported age). And the word is that his velocity hasn’t recovered post-injury.

by Scott McKinney on Oct 17, 2011 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions
he was only at High-A
it would have been very aggressive for them to start him at AA given his lack of experience.
Velo is down
Almost certainly due to his shoulder surgery… but with shoulder injuries there is some risk he won’t regain his former stuff. It’s not like TJ where a pitcher can be expected to come back at full strength. The risk from the shoulder injury is what bumps him down as a prospect. Still, you can expect KC to give him a shot to move up quickly because he’s on a major league contract.
*Scott covered some of this in his post before I finished mine – damn you Scott, thanks for stealing my thunder. Shouldn’t you East-coasters be in bed by now?

Then you’ll be begging for sleep.

THERE WILL BE NO SECOND CHILD. I love the one I have, but she is all I can take. We are one and done.

I don't blame you at all
My eldest was born within a week or two of your daughter, and we’ve since had another (the last). I don’t remember what a full night sleep is or what it’s like to have hobbies. Reading about the Royals IS basically my only hobby. Is that sad or is it dedication?
I can't even imagine that life
You’re a stronger man than I am. When Katie started sleeping through the night and on a fairly regular schedule, I felt like I was let out of a dungeon. I can’t go back to that.

You can handle a second kid (if you want to).
Ours were born 22 months apart. The first two years after the second was born were a blur. Not much sleep and even less time to ourselves. But it was worth it. Time really does go fast. They are both teenagers now and are very close (even when they are fighting). As they get older, I am really happy that we had two. If anything, I almost wish we would’ve had three.

There's definitely a benefit to having multiple kids
But I really don’t think I could handle it and be a good parent to multiple kids. A lot of people have more patience and flexibility than I. I barely have enough for one child. One more would push me over the edge.

Edwin Carl
I’d like to see him start the season at AA this year. Glad he made the Star’s list.
This guy should be higher.
30. OF Jorge Bonifacio (18, 6-0, 203, R-R): Showed flashes in first year in States (at Burlington) after being the club’s Dominican Academy player of the year in 2010; one to watch.
