Don't worry, he'll be a Royal in 2013

I wonder, would that make the fanbase fall in love with him all over again because they’d be happy to have an ace, or would some still hold a grudge for how he so clearly and undeniably quit on the team in 2010?

would be glad to have him back. I think it’s the portable cooler crowd that likes to complain on every thread at KC Star.com that we always trade anybody that “gets good” and that Glass keeps treating the Royals like Walmart (we wish we had that much success) that would be saying: “That guys a traitor, he quit on us, F- him”.

I’d just love the idea of getting Escobar, Cain, Jeffress and Odorizzi for two meaningless years of Greinke’s career in which we weren’t ready to compete. One does wonder, though, if we had kept Greinke would we have been able to find a SS and NOT be looking for a “top of the rotation starter” this offseason. Would Zack have been happy contending with us next year?

At some point before the Greinke trade, I called for the Royals to acquire Brendan Ryan, as he would be a cheap SS with good defense. He managed 2.6 fWAR this year. Finding decent, league average SS’s who can manage 2 WAR with their glove and positional adjustment really isn’t that hard. That’s what makes Escobar’s 2.2 fWAR this year less than impressive.

Of course if we hadn’t traded Greinke, there’s still be at least one hole in the rotation and everyone would be worrying about what’s going to happen with the rotation in 2013 once Greinke’s contract has expired.
