The Yu-Bet Bench

Assuming we will carry 4 bench players, what will have on the bench to start 2012? There must be a backup C, and preferably a capable MLB C with options in MiLB. That’s one of four; from here, the choices become more diverse, yet the basics of most MLB benches remain the same.. The starting position players play a role in these three choices, but in general most teams have a criterion for filling the last three position player spots on the MLB roster. Nothing new or in depth, just my thoughts on the current state of affairs and what Moore might be trying to accomplish.

I think we will break camp in 2012 with the starting position players status quo. The question is, how will Moore fill the bench? He tendered Mitch, Brena and Getz, but that is no guarantee they will be on the 25 man in April. Now we have Yu-Bet virtually assured a spot, so what is Moore trying to do?

What does the usual MLB team want on the bench? Backup C, check. MIF glove guy who you hope doesn’t kill you with his bat; not really Yu-Bet. Versatile OF who can hit some; maybe MITCH!. And last, a big bopper corner guy who can at least play 1B, preferably COF, too, and be an intimidating pinch hitter; TOTAL FAIL!!!!!!!!

Moore must know this. My fear is that he sees Yu-Bet as his BIG BENCH BAT and UI rolled into one, a huge bargain akin to Bloomers. In GMDM’s mind , he covers two bench positions, three on the field; win! MITCH! and or Dyson cover all the OF spots. Then, he can keep Getz or Dyson as his grit/speed/defense toy, leaving us with a bench of C, Yu-Bet, MITCH!, and Getz or Dyson. I cannot wait for Yu-Bet to cast his imposing shadow on the batter’s box in crucial situations next season.

This is just one possible future. We cannot change it, but we can hope GMDM will do so……or maybe not. Don’t break what you already broke, Dayton.
