Equating Your Royals To A Character In The Wire: The Joakim Soria Edition
As shameless self-promotion has seemed to rule the roost here today, here's my shot on what I anticipate to be a recurring feature to break up the monotony a bit at Royalscentricity. I know there are plenty of fans of The Wire in these here parts.

I intend to keep it somewhat contemporary
Age of the Blogs at the very least. I will tell you that one of the three is not a current Royal.

I'd say maybe after 3....
Brother Mouzone is spot on….I just hope Butler doesn’t end up as Dookie

The Wire is so critically praised its almost a parody of itself to heap more praise upon it....
but prob the best series ever….esp if you happen to come from a bit of a lefty perspective(although the genius of the show is that it displays errors in ideology from both sides), have a weakness for crime fiction, character based story telling, bad ass gangsters, and are at all interested in seeing the veil of bullshit that passes for conventional wisdom regarding politics, labor, education, criminal justice, media, sexuality, government planning, etc…..pulled back to reveal some truth to how we’re all fucked, then the shows for you.

GIve it time....
and you’ll soon be blubbering infantile praise about the show like i do….its awesome

im about as right as it gets and i still love the show
i think it has to do with my upper middle class suburban, private school upbringing….its just a world i knew nothing about and had no experience in dealing with….and mcnulty, omar, stringer, bubbles, etc are some of the best characters ive ever seen.

I hear you....the characters are fantastic.
Hell, I’m from rural Nebraska…that world is foreign to most of the United States I’m guessing…..Part of what makes it good is that Simon was a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, so I’m sure there is more than a little real life quality to it….plus, I like shows that have bad guys that you can kind of sympathize with on some levels(Omar), and good guys who have flaws and are assholes in many ways (McNulty)….they have some depth. Stringer Bell is infinitely more interesting as a bad guy than, say, Hans Gruber from Die Hard. Have you read Simon’s book? I think its called Homicide….kind of like a primer for the series. Long, but I rec it.

It has some great moments
the Tayvon (sp?)/Shane showdown is pretty epic.
It definitely isn’t the best show ever (The Wire), but it is in elite company amongst the basic cable upper echelon. It also matters a lot in that it laid the groundwork for what FX would end up doing with its original programming and raised the bar with what the Cable Nets set out to do.

the only negative thing ive found about it so far is what i hate about network tv shows….every episodes got a single storyline that comes and goes…at least this ones got bigger, longer storylines as well

Generally speaking
I think you’ve seen a lot more series that are serialized (at least in part) than you would have 15 – 20 years ago.
