"When I look around here, I see a lot of the same things. I see a lot of guys who like to work hard, No. 1. I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen in the weight room after workouts. Guys are just working their tails off.
"That’s something you can’t really teach. You can want your players to do it, but they’re in there. It’s impressive. It’s the whole group of them coming up. This has all of the makings of a solid team."

I'm nervous
about Jeff Francis this year, but his continued comparisons of this current Royals team to the 2007 Rockies makes me really excited. If nothing else, it seems to send a message to these young, upcoming kids that it’s not crazy to believe in winning and expect winning.

Most meaningless quote of all time.
Being a team reporter in ST would just be a godawful boring job……..having to get these same BS lines from every single player year after year…..my god.
Killing time until time kills me
Maybe
but I would guess after five minutes of getting the boring quotes that can be used in a story, the conversation goes off the record, and the player might start talking about how a teammate is such an asshole or about the waitress he banged last night.
I thought you were going to go the "maybe"
but this reporter is in Arizona while KC has snow on the ground. If that’s boring, sign me up.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I see what you mean
But can’t all sports reporting be chalked up to fluff? I guess my intrigue in Jeff Francis’ quotes this off season has mainly been because of his insistence that the Royals are on the cusp of contention. Sure, you’re going to get all kinds of hype being vomited into every microphone in earshot at ST, but when has that stopped us from finding something to get excited about in the past? It’s baseball season, dude!

Sure, get excited...but get excited about things that matter. Young players, the games themselves...etc...
..but this is nothing more than a standard quote that every player in the league would say in this spot and with every uniform on. Someone saying the opposite of this would be a major, major shock to the sports world. This is nothing. I’m excited about watching some players improve….not about some guy saying he thinks we can contend.

I don't know, seemed like a pretty good quote to me.
I heard Francis has been working on his interviews in the off season. Some scouts are saying he’s in the best interviewing shape of his life.

Do his shower shoes have fungus on them though?

You’re gonna have to learn your clichés. You’re gonna have to study them, you’re gonna have to know them. They’re your friends. Write this down: “We gotta play it one day at a time.”

Zack is definitely my favorite player, but
I understand why athlete’s lie and use cliches. A lot of people really flip out when Zack gives honest quotes. Honesty does not always sit well with middle class America.
