Johnny Giavotella Is Growing Up So Fast
"Look, I know I stayed out past curfew last Friday. Dad, you don't understand! Look! I mean, just trust me. Let me borrow the car tonight! I'll be home by 11:00 PM. I promise! Really."

Whether or not I should be
I’m really optimistic about him. Love the forearms. I think he’ll be a below avg defender but well above avg offensively. Short compact swing.

so, is this the new meme?
take all of the 2011 royals team photos and throw up a snarky story?

yes,
this, i think is why the royals will fail…because they’ve taken team pictures. great analysis.

I'm with you.
Giavotella looks like a 17-year-old. What else are we going to talk about during a throw-away year that even the FO has stated is “maybe going to get to .500”?

Don't worry
They’re both small and scrappy, but similarities end right there.
I think JG is going to surprise us. One anonymous scout said the bat was MLB-ready. He’ll at least be a good trade piece.
ecksteins numbers in the minors were better
and eckstein could sorta play short and wouldve been a good defensive 2b. ecksteins numbers in the minors were better than gias offensively

I'd take Giavotella turning into Eckstein.
14.0 WAR over the first six years of his career……I’d take that from Gia. Wouldnt’ want to have him during the decline of Eckstein’s career…but for a while, Eck was a decent player. I’d take Gia turning into that.

i'll take a slightly lesser player in order to not have to hear ryan talk about an eckstein type player
and gia turning into an eckstein type player is an absolute best case scenario. eckstein was an above average SS defensively Gia is by all accounts a bad defensive 2b

I think Ryan will talk about it the second Gia makes his major league debut and won't quit until he's dead....no matter what.

the key is colon being a good mlb 2b and bianchi staying healthy...then gia is gone

Why? they Royals preference is to have 2 extra
middle infielders on the team.
Go Royals!
a backup MIF should be able to play at least passably both MIF spots....
not just poory at 2b

betemit has some upside with the bat and can play 5 positions in a pinch
where can giavotella play?
also, i dont think there’d really be a spot for betemit on a good team either
are there any teams in the league that carry a backup 2b?

and we're hoping to not be the same old royals
in a couple years which is precisely why if GIavotella isnt good enough to start, which i dont think he’ll be, he shouldnt be here

DM was just saying he could play third and outfield.
Sorry, but it is the same old thing.
Go Royals!
if thats the case...he should definitely get some time at those spots this year....
b/c clearly unless something goes horribly wrong, colon is the 2b of the future

yes, it would be awful to have a player like Dustin Pedroia on the Royals
