Will, where do you find all these stories?
You have a very eclectic literary bent. Okay, the Guardian’s not too out there, but Magasin?

Chaim Mattis Keller New York City's # 1 Royals fan!
He was going in for a "tryout" but I don't think anything ever came out of it (or is even possible, IMO)
Not sure he even was there with the team (at least not yet). Daily Wiz hasn’t mentioned it, anyways.

trying to switch to soccer would be (at best) be like Jordan trying to switch to baseball. Even if he dedicated himself, despite being an amazing athlete, you can’t just jump in and compete with the pro’s.
If anything, football is a sport you can switch too, not from. Bo and Deion did it, but they played both football and baseball in college.

Not too happy with no Betemit or Cain the the line up.
I am not surprised by this at all though.
Best Line up IMO.
CF-Cain
2B-Aviles
DH-Butler
1B-Kila
3B-Betemit
RF-Cabrera
LF-Gordon
C-Pena
SS-Escobar.
I think I would actually swap Frency for Melky

Figured they would hit about the same
Melky would be better in the field though.
thats debatable also

Lineup Chatter
According to that link, Aviles is going to lead off, because he swings a “magic wand”. “Getzie” (WTFie?) and “Esky” (seriously?) are going to alternate hitting 2nd (with the other hitting 9th) depending on the handedness of the opposing pitcher. Kila is hitting cleanup. Alex and Frenchy are going to hit 6th and 7th (again depending on the pitcher).

What about Grienke, that was a total loss.I don’t see how he could be worth that much.Where is some common sense?!

I’m not sure I understand your comment. Are you saying the Royals got a good return for Greinke? If so, i agree. Not sure what you mean by “total loss”. Could you expound on that?

last year he was terrible! like 10-15,his emotional problems, all the royals did was get him prepared for big time! which is what he got.Oh Well!

I really have no idea what you are saying. Greinke was one of the best pitchers in the American League. He didn’t have emotional problems last year either.

nscott (Nick Scott) replies…
I honestly don’t understand the words you are typing. But if you’re referring to his win loss record, I don’t care nor do I even know what it was. It’s the least important and most skewed stat in the world of baseball. YOu won’t ever hear me talk about pitcher wins other than to dissparage them in this blog. It’s a confusing, convoluted stat with absolutely no value whatsoever.
Can’t see no wrong? Trust me, I criticise all over the place and it’s often deserved. Tos ay that Greinke wasn’t good in 2010 is beyond incorrect and so I’ll call that out. He was extremely good.
“leading the AL ain’t nothing to brag about”
I understand all of those words, but the order you put them in makes no sense to me.

is that he was on a pitch count. Too bad there’s no Pitch F/X today – so I can’t really tell how many pitches he threw. Collins worked out of that jam pretty good though…..

When Are These
Doubles becoming HRs for Butler?
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
I'll settle for the doubles
He leads the 2010s (“teens”, I suppose) in 2Bs and I wouldn’t mind at all if he keeps hitting lots of them. Not that I have anything against home runs.
Did we ever decide on a name for the last decade? The “aughts” is probably the best. When I was a little kid Uncle Jack and Uncle Jimmy and Grandmother used to talk about “nineteen-aught-seven.”

Interesting, possibly meaningless, items from Spring Training so far
1) Is Melky’s ridiculous spring (and weight loss) a sign that last year was a fluke?
2) Is Escobar really going to hit for some power?
3) Has Mendoza turned a corner and become a useful reliever?
4) Is this Gordon’s “real” breakout year?
Bingo

Exactly my thoughts
I’m holding out hope that Melky will play well enough to generate some trade value. But I hold no illusions that Mendoza will ever be an MLB quality pitcher.
not 3
I’d be more inclined to believe Butler will steal 10 bases this year than in Mendoza being “useful”.

the only thing i have to say about mendoza this spring
is that the Pitch F/x made him look like he has a good sinker.
it's situations like this where i really want gordon to progress
runners in scoring position with 2 outs. just need to know that he is capable of performing when he needs to perform and not one off situations where the game is out of hand and the runs don’t matter.
Do these effectively hide my thunder?

Aargh! Dutton Says
Getz will bat 2nd. He’s not good enough to bat 10th.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
He'll only be platooning, batting 9th the other days
Maybe that takes it from Abominably Bad to Really Bad?
