Does this mean that even Yost questions the abilities of Frenchy and Melky?

In a recent article (link) on the Royals website, it appears that Neddy boy might have let slip that he isn't 100% on the longevity of his starting outfield build.

Star-divide

A subplot of the leadoff story is that the Royals' camp is jammed with outfielders and, at most, five will be on the Opening Day roster, including right fielder Jeff Francoeur, left fielder Alex Gordon and Cabrera in center.

"We made a commitment with Melky and Francoeur to give them a good two-, two-and-a-half month shot at it," Yost said.

Gordon, just shifted to the outfield successfully last year, also will be given a good chance to show improved production at bat.

"All Alex has got to do is take it and run with it. He's done his part. He's worked on completely revamping his swing to where he can make more consistent contact, more power contact but he's still got to go on the field and produce," Yost said.

- Emphasis added by me.

Now, I might be reading a bit too much into that quote, but it seems like one wouldn't make a comment like that if you were more sure about your off-season signings.  Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the Frenchy singing supposed to be advertised as a full-time acquisition instead of roster filling.  I was under the impression that the Francoeur commitment was that he was signed with the intention that he would be a permanent player out there (which is why we were all down on the signing).  Instead, Yost makes it sound as if he is just a placeholder (which is what we hoped) and that maybe Jonah Keri's (link) interpretation is correct.

What do ya'll think?  (And I apologize if this has already been posted somewhere)

I think you are right

When I read it, I took it to mean they are replaceable if someone deserves call-up and they aren’t playing well.

May - June time frame

Will bring our 1st wave of prospects from AAA Omaha! So they meet the time requirements for the pay increases- I think it’s spelled abbretations.. Not sure I read it earlier.. I’m actually getting a warm feeling about the royals…

this means more time for Maier, Cain, Dyson or an outside source.

How Long Can

The stupid go on? If Sabean can win the Series, anything can happen. A random MLB move generator would eventually produce a winner.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

This is inspirational poster material. And also now my personal credo.

Personally, I feel much more optimistic about life in general

and in the Royals specifically.

The fact that we are even talking about this means

You are correct. If Yost, Moore or anyone in the Royals organization thought that Melky was a better option, they would have said so. The fact that everyone knows Melky was promised a starting position only indicates that it would belong to Cain, all things being equal. I expect to see Cain sometime in early June. In my opinion, this is less about keeping (ill advised) promises and more about keeping Melky and Cain motivated. Injuries or the looming specter of failure (see: Gorden, Alex) could very well mean that we end up seeing both of these players on the field at the same time. Signing Melky was foolish, but I suspect Moore is hoping he turns into Betemit version 2.0.

Moore said Melky wouldn't have been signed

if the Greinke trade happened earlier.
That makes me feel atleast a little bit better.
