Butler @ 5/44.5 (w/ option picked up and escalators)

Bruce @ 7/64 (w/ option picked up)

Bruce is a year younger than Butler, Reds did a nice job of locking him up early.

I thought it was a bad call.....

he wasn’t being the petulant RVP who was pissed because he mistimed his run….I think he truly didn’t hear the whistle, and the Barca defenders didn’t stop play either…..to bad what was shaping up to be a kick ass last 40 minutes got shanked by a poor call.

by Nighthawk at the Diner on Mar 8, 2011 11:06 PM EST up reply actions

He certainly pissed off the crowd

Arsenal was terrible last night. They didn’t get off even one shot on goal, and only held the ball about one-third of the time. All they did was defend and look for the fast break. Fàbregas didn’t have a good game, and neither did Van Persie before he got sent off.

Adriano looks like a good player, and this kid Afellay does, too. Mascherano is getting a lot of playing time, though it helps that Puyol is injured.

Barca totally dominated.....

Its nuts the way they control possession….I don’t watch much La Liga, but Arsenal generally treats other Eng Prem teams they way Barca treated them last nite….I still think Barca is the best club in the world, it would have been a bit of a travesty if they wouldn’t have gotten thru. It would have made for a more entertaining match if Arsenal was at full strength……do you think anyone poses a real threat to Barca? MAYBE Chelsea if Torres can blend in/regain his form? I guess Real Madrid, maybe, although the way Barca spanked them a few months ago, that seems unlikely too. Again, I don’t pay as much attention to la liga, is Kaka starting to round into form for Real? Isn’t there another Clasico coming up too?

by Nighthawk at the Diner on Mar 9, 2011 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

I wonder if it psychs out Cesc to go back to the Bernebau?

I know he grew up in the Barca system….he’s always kind of been a lesser light on the national team behind Silva, Iniesta, Xavi, etc…kid of like trying to beat up your big brother. Were you at the match by any chance? I’ve prob asked you before, but have you been to a home match? What an atmosphere….whats that place hold? 100K?

by Nighthawk at the Diner on Mar 9, 2011 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, there's a threat to Barça

simply because you can’t win ‘em all and they’re going to come up against some tough competition. I think they’re the best team in the Champions, but they’ll have to face teams like Inter and Madrid and Man U, and those teams can beat you if you’re not very careful.

There’s no threat in the Spanish league; Barça’s seven points ahead of Real Madrid. This will be three league titles in a row.

The Bernabéu is Madrid’s stadium; Barça’s is the Camp Nou. Cesc, I don’t know. I think he’s professional and experienced enough not to be psyched out by anytthing.

No way I could have gotten tickets to that game. Sold out for months and the cheapest tickets are €78. I go to the stadium two or three times a year with my wife; there are open seats for the weaker league competition and tickets cost €24-30 for the nosebleed seats. For Cup games against very weak opponents they cut prices to €5, just to get a crowd out, and I always go to those. I try to get all my friends to come along, and they’re usually in, and we have a good riotous time.*

*They don’t body-search you, and I bring a flask of Jim Beam, and a couple of pre-rolled joints. My friends do more or less the same. So does everybody else in the stadium, except the Moroccan families with nine kids.

Kaká is currently injured and has not played much this season

My bad, cross fucking Camp Nou and the Bernabeu....ugly Americanism at its prettiest

bourbon and weed……nice. I imagine the combo elevates the beautiful game, much like a little smoke gives music and movies a “playoff like atmosphere”. I think you are overestimating the English competition….I can’t see anyone handling Barca in the champions league. I think Man U and Inter are both weaker than last year….seems like the Special One hasn’t clicked at Real, but you prob know more about that soap opera than I do. Maybe Bayern? Regardless, Barca is an absolute joy to watch. I’m green with envy . . . . those Cup games against minnows sound like a wonderful time.

In all seriousness, though, Alex is showing some serious focus by not giving into what I am sure is his instinct to try to “do something”. Some of these pitches are close, but he’s still laying off of them. That takes a certain amount of self confidence.

by Disposable Orchestra on Mar 8, 2011 3:42 PM EST reply actions

Agree, but I’m also perplexed as to why pitchers aren’t challenging him.

Regardless, he’ll get his chance with some regular time this year (I hope). Time to find out if he or Kila (or maybe both via some weird circumstances) will be part of the future plans.

I question the premise – they will most likely not contend this year, nor even come close to contending, for that matter, so why in the world are they insisting on having two lefty relievers?

Speaking of the scouting dept.

What is the general concensus here on whether the Royals should risk not taking Starling in the first round? It seems to me that if he turns into a star, the Royals will end up looking really, really bad. People talk about missing Pujols…lol..yeah right. But, Starling…there would be no excuse about “body type” with him.

I don't know why they'd look bad

It’s not like he is some hidden treasure that only the Royals should know about, which Pujols was to a certain extent.

by kcbottom9th on Mar 8, 2011 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

That’s exactly why the SD would look bad…he’s not hidden at all. Pujols was hidden. Every team had, what, 4 or 5 chances at him at least. No one knew what he was. Everyone knows what Starling could be, and if the Royals pass him up and he grows into a perennial all-star, then yeah, I’d say the SD blew it.

by Disposable Orchestra on Mar 8, 2011 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

It means they would made a call to go with someone else

And I think they have earned the right to be trusted on that. What of they pick someone else who becomes a star?

Pujols was a failure because they didn’t know about him enough to pick him in 12 rounds, despite him being in their back yard.

The Royals told Albert that they wanted to draft him, but he would have to sign for cheap money (I can’t remember how much, but Albert told them he wanted more money). So the Royals didn’t draft him, hoping nobody would, and then get him to sign as a FA for $5,000.

who else thinks escobar will actually be a decent hitter?

something about his BABIP last year being really unlucky

I think he will eventually be viewed as the primary guy we got in the Grienke trade

i think thats how he's been viewed from the get go

he’s gonna be a decent player pretty much regardless..good defense at shortstop does a ton for a players value

I dont know

I havent even watched the kid yet…..but his minor league stats indicate he can hit…..I am hopeful

Cap it, and watch the players association strike it.

Getz 0 for 3

that’s GOOD news, in my book.

The sooner they get over the fascination with him, the sooner we can get a look at Bianchi, or some other IF combination.

Second base has become a position where offense is fairly important. All glove guys won’t cut it there

Getz is an all glove guy?

He’s freaking horrible. WTF? I look back at the whole Beltran trade and now we have Chris fucking Getz. Great job boys!

I'm waiting for my wave of talent to arrive.

I have a request

Will someone who is either watching or listening to the game be a good play-by-play man and update us poor working slobs who are unable to access live info on the game. Thanks
