He pitched for 2 weeks with a rib injury?

Obviously he’s a quitter!

Well so much for seeing him at ST March 13th.

I was hoping Billy was gonna break his ribs in a ST fight.

He was uninterested in his rib

Greinke will soon

Brief the press about the Rib, saying it was holding secret meetings with other skeletal members making fun of Zack.

DM is a genius

He probably foresaw this and that’s why he had to dump Greinke when he did.

Isn’t there usually a clause in players’ contracts (especially high-paid stars) that says the player can’t participate in other recreational sports?

I always wondered how he got his wife back then in school, and whether he talks to his wife in the same way we see in interview

extra context

2 weeks ago: Greinke hurts himself playing basketball
2 weeks ago: Greinke speaks of how exhausted he gets listening to people and makes various comments that KC radio propagandists leap on

So, did he get hurt before he went to the media? may explain an extra edge to his statements if he had a rib injury.

Of course, the anti-Greinke heads are incredibly dishonest.

1) because they’d kiss Greinke’s feet if he came back in 2013 (which won’t happen)
2) because you know if Greinke was bitten by a bug and out a game, but Escobar hurt himself playing basketball, they’d still go after Greinke more and ignore Escobar.

They’re disingenuous propagandists. Running with the ball handed to them by the organization.

In the scheme of things, Jeffress and Escobar could start the year in KC. Cain might get significant playing time too. But people like the Bob Frescoes of the world act like Greinke left a flaming bag of crap on their door step and they can’t quit Zack Greinke.

I'm still a Zack fan

I cut him a break for the Asperger’s syndrome or whatever he’s got. The guy is mentally ill, after all. And I can’t blame him for wanting to leave the Royals.

As for the broken rib, I’d draw a line between what’s really dangerous and what’s not. Playing golf, tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc. is good because it helps you stay in shape and the injury risks are minimal. If he had been skiing or motorcycle riding or imitating pro wrestling in his backyard, that would be something different.

If I were a manager I’d tell players, “Play all the golf you want. Just one rule: No golf carts. Walk the course.” You’d be surprised what good exercise walking a few miles is.

Another thing I'd do if I were the manager

is install a game room in the clubhouse, with a couple of ping-pong tables, a couple of pool tables, a foosball machine, and a Pop-a-Shot. Playing those games develops your hand-eye coordination and reflexes, and might add to team camaraderie.

I’d also tell them no cell phones, laptops, or I-pods in the clubhouse. For entertainment when nothing else is happening, go to the game room. When you’re at work, you’re focusing on preparation for the upcoming game and the rest of the season. There’s plenty of time for that stuff after the game.

that MAY work in HS....

but no way you’re telling professional baseball players to not have their phones

Can't they be separated from their phones

six to eight hours a day, like your average working stiff? Especially when they’re supposed to be working out or practicing or doing something else useful to the team like watching film or at least playing ping-pong. If there’s a family problem and somebody really needs to contact a player, have them call the clubhouse phone number. Just like before about 1995 or so.

I'd say people separated from phones/computers for 6-8 hours a day is a very small minority in the U.S.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

its not like they're on the phone in the dugouts....

if someone tries to convince me to play ping pong while not being allowed to be on my phone or laptop.

In the last two days I’ve gotten ahold of people in about every line of work via cell phone or text….teacher, lawyer, someone at sprint, people in sales, bartenders

what professions are there out there where you cant at least get ahold of someone almost instantly by email?

Fair enough.

There’s the “we’re adults, we’re entitled to behave the way we want to” argument. There’s also the “we’re paying you at least $400,000 a season, you’ll do whatever we want for that kind of money” argument.

How hooked are people on this electronic shit? I’m on the computer all the time, but it’s my job. Whenever I finish something up and deserve a break, or if I don’t have anything lined up, I surf the net and frequently come here because I like the site and love the Röyals. But I don’t even have a cellphone. Don’t need one. Don’t want one.

Can’t regular people stay away from text messaging and all that crap for the 6-7 hours that warmups and a pro baseball game take?

Well, it’s not a big deal. I’d be thrilled with a .500 Röyals team whether they’re on their cell phones or not.

Why are people supposed to like Greinke?

The guy comes off as an idiot with the shit he says. If he puts on a uniform everyone will root for him because they like the uniform no different than if Frenchy somehow hits 30 HR with a .900 OPS.

If you play well you’ll get everyone cheering for you no matter what you say but if you say you didn’t pitch or play to your ability people are gonna hate on you.

Your second paragraph is very true

If Frenchy hits for a 900 OPS I’ll be totally in favor of him and I will bow down before Dayton and call him “Your Geniusness.” But Frenchy is not going to hit for a 900 OPS. However, Frenchy is a nice guy known for giving his (not very good) best. I wouldn’t hate on Frenchy as a person (unlike, say, Kendall), just as a player.

But if Frenchy hits for a 700 OPS and then goes out and says he was giving it a half-assed effort, then I will hate on him because I expect these players to earn their high salaries. If you swing and miss, well, shit happens. If you swing and miss because you don’t care, then you deserve some hate.

You couldn't be more right

This is the difference between Greinke and Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez spent his whole career with the Chiefs, playing his ass off at an all world level, even when the Chiefs were God awful. A lot of Chiefs fans understood why he wanted to chase a championship in his twilight years. Greinke, on the other hand, pitched two very nice seasons and all of sudden he’s earned the right to a championship? It’s a shame the Harlem Globetrotters don’t field a baseball team.

You don't have to do either.

People have been given plenty of reasons for whatever side they choose without it being bashed.

I hope he gets healthy soon

I love watching him pitch, and give interviews. I hope he lights up the NL.
