The Royals and a Nashville Apartment Complex
There’s nothing spectacular about Stewart’s Ferry Apartments. Now more than a quarter-century old, it’s a mature, healthy development. It’s one of those places everybody lives in at one time or another, it seems.
But Stewart’s Ferry Apartments is a brick-and-mortar footnote to one of the strangest, saddest stories in baseball history. It played a key role in the decline and fall of the Kansas City Royals.

that's crazy
I didn’t realize those contracts given to Wilson and Quiz (Brett, too) were so non team (well, owner)-freindly. I think Kauffman dying was really the beginning of the current stretch… simply a man that couldn’t be replaced.

although it's not quite clear how bad those contracts actually were
there’s no mention of what the average salary was, and the fact that wilson was bought out so early…
Wow.
Thanks for the link…very interesting read, and it’s something to say that knowing it hurts my heart, even now.

Some more info on the actual cash flow (and/or expected cash flow)
would help put the good/bad -ness of the the decision into perspective.
