I can see the headline now
“Wood relieves Adcock in victory over Fister” 5th Graders everywhere (and all of RR) rejoice
Is it 2012 yet?

Dr. Nick all over the problem once again.
Go Royals!
Me too
I’m not that excited about adding Wood. Especially since we already have Adcock.

he does have 8 Ks in 5 scoreless innings so far
lets see if he can strike guys out up here now
Is it 2012 yet?
Has he gotten rid of his godawful beard?
Or will Soria make him grow it back out anyway? (Even though he’s not technically a rookie.)

Or Holland
Both of them are very talented and can get strikeouts. I don’t get Moore’s attraction to Wood (no pun intended). He hasn’t been able to strikeout batters at any level above A-ball. And it’s not like he’s got pinpoint control and never walks anybody. I don’t think there’s any reason to believe he’ll ever have success in the majors.

8 Ks in 5 innings so far at Omaha this year
Plus he was hitting 99 reportedly. We all know about Dayton’s fascination with hard throwers.
Is it 2012 yet?
Yes
I miss Farnsworth’s STRAIGHTBALL OF DOOM. Hopefully Wood will be able to replicate it.

if he can replicate what farns did in his time here....
that’ll beawesome….i dont see it though

I have an irrational love of Wood
there I said it.
I think it has to do with all the movement I see on his pitches. At least it looks like it moves a lot from the center field camera. I see no reason to not give him another shot in a wasted year. I don’t think that is in conflict with acknowledging that Holland and Coleman will probably be better.

Any love of Wood is irrational.
Sure, he’s big with the ladies, and even some guys—but it’s never based on statistics. The numbers say he will let you down every time, and he’s certainly not buying you flowers to apologize.
I hope things have changed for Wood
5 innings worth of data don’t convince me. There’s a lot more data out there which points in a bad direction. But like I said, I hope he’s improved.

Then agian, in a non-contending season....
Seeing if he can is not that bad of an idea.
Go Royals!
Can't the same be said of better prospects like Holland and Coleman
I’d be much more interested in developing them in the majors and evaluating them, as their track records make them more likely to succeed in the majors.

They are both pretty sure bets to be sucessful in the majors.
Wood however, is a pretty up in the air case as to if he can be good enough to hold down a reliever job. He and Chavez are both in that boat. Seeing if they should be traded/released is a pretty good argument for seeing them up in the majors. Plus Coleman has service time issues for a few more days and is not on the 40 man roster. Holland was up in September, so delaying him another month or so delays his service time.
Go Royals!
Sure bets?
No one is a sure be to be successful in the majors, least of all non-elite reliever prospects. I like their chances, but to say that they are certain or even very likely to succeed in the majors is unsupportable. And I’m not just talking about “1.5 WAR per season” success. I’m just talking about being a decent MLB reliever. We have no idea. It’s not like every prospect who gets a lot of strikeouts in AAA becomes a successful MLB reliever.

We have to have the most arousing bullpen in the majors

I'll bet we could coax
Lim Sun-Dong out of retirement. He’s only 37—he might have something left in the tank.

Start with Wang, then Adcock and end with Wood.

And maybe we could coax
Bobby Cox out of retirement to be the pitching coach, eh? spaz
You want optimism? My glass is half full of emptiness.
Cox for bench coach
Rusty Kuntz, first base coach
Dick Pole, pitching coach
I need to grow up

grow up. That’s an order.

What the fuck
does Louis Coleman have to do to earn a callup? Please tell me we arent gaming relief pitchers service time now……
Plenty of dead weight on the 40 man
Im not buying it. Another Dayton Fail is all this is. Fuck, at least call Holland up. He has more than earned it.
I'm not too worked up over it
This is probably Wood’s last chance, and god knows this won’t be the last move we will see in the pen.

it's not as if Wood was pitching poorly either
by 9il on Apr 14, 2011 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
I don't think the deciding factor on who should be called up should be based upon what their stats look like after one week of minor league play
Coleman has all of 4 innings pitched so far this season. Does that data outweigh everything else in his professional career? And is 8 k’s and 3 bb’s in 4 ip really that bad? Regardless, this is a tiny sample of data which should be given the appropriate consideration.

Wood
Wasn’t he kept down because he was slow to the plate and Billy Butler was stealing on him in SP intrasquad games?
good memory
I’d forgotten about that

According to the article on the official Royals website ("Major League Moments")
he is much faster to the plate now. He apparently did this by . . . speeding up his delivery.
GENIUS!!

Louie, Louie....
What’s the point of drafting a quick to the majors college reliever and stashing him in AAA? We know what Coleman is, and it’s time for him to prove it.
Besides, how great would it be in the 5th inning of a crappy Davies or SOS start at the K to hear the crowd start singing “Louie, Louie” to get Ned to put Coleman in?
you have to hand it to this porn star named bullpen
they’re kicking ass and taking names.
