Royals HOF member and television announcer Paul Splittorff close to death
I'm shocked to learn that he's not expected to make it through the week. Kind of unbelievable that he continued broadcasting through all of this treatment.

Very sad
Splitt was always fun to listen to even with the voice issues. When I think of Royal announcers, it’s Denny, Fred, and Splitt. And we just lost Bill Grisby too. This is terrible.
I need to go take a Davies and wipe my Elarton. Excuse me.

terrible news
i always thought he had a stroke, apparently is is much much worse. Poor guy i always enjoyed listening to him even after his voice deteriorated.
Do these effectively hide my thunder?
This is really sad.
Splitt was the first active MLB player I ever met, as he happened to wander through our town to sign autographs one winter when I was a little kid. Meeting him at a young age had a lot to do with me becoming a Royals fan. Splitt has always been a fantastic representative of the Royals organization. God bless, Splitt.

Sad news, but...
GREG HALL, YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE
Split’s health is his business. If he wants information to go public, that’s fine. Otherwise, you’re a grade A jerk for taking Split’s most personal information public. Split has a right to privacy. You have no right violating it. You have a legal right, but no moral or ethical right. I don’t see how you can sleep at night. But I’m sure you don’t care. —Scott McKinney
Did NYRoyal seriously just call someone else an asshole?

This is really bad news.
My dad met Splitt years ago at a tailgate and talked to him for a while. He said he was a genuinely nice guy, who really enjoyed his job. This will be a tough loss for the Royals community. I’m going to both Friday and Sunday’s game, so, I might see a memorial for him.
Not sure why he wanted it a secret
but i’ve know about this for about 18 months. I was talking to one of the Royals front office guys and asked about what was wrong with Splittorff and he rather casually told me that Split had throat cancer. About 2 minutes later he came over and asked me to keep that to myself since he’d forgotten that Split didn’t want anybody to know. I think if it was me, I’d have wanted to clear it up so everybody didn’t think I was drunk or had a stroke, but he wanted to keep it private so that’s the way it stayed. It’s amazing that nobody else that knew had let it slip in that time.
Splittorff was one of the nicer old Royals I’ve met, always seemed happy to meet you.
Probably because he wanted to keep working
Without everyone thinking the whole time “that poor man has cancer and will die soon.”
