What To Do About Soria?

Just When We thought we had the game going to the bottom of the 9th.  Soria has been pitching a little bit better... Wait...No... Not again.  Another Blown Hold For Soria.  He already has 5 blown saves on the season and we've played 40 some games we have won 20.  Heck Royals would have 25 wins if our Mexicutioner didn't blow those games.  People hate to think about it or even say it, but Soria has lost his touch.  He's not the same closer the Royals had last year and the all-star we remember.  He hardly ever throws his breaking ball anymore and I can't remember when he struck a batter out or even had a 123 inning like the closer is supposed to do except when Yost knew that Soria was struggling and put him in for some work as mop up duty against the game in which the Royals set Major League Records of crappppy pitching.  Great trade for Mazzaro by the way.  I know DDJ doesn't fit on this Royals roster and was kind of all about himself according to an interview that I have had with Dayton Moore.  I can't remember a trade has actually quite worked out for the Royals.  Mark Tehan was a dumb trade.  I think we got Chris I can't hit the ball passed and outfielder Getz and I'm a below average .220 hitter, and Josh Fields who we already got rid of.  Who did we get for Beltran again? Dye? Macdougal? Dotel? YEAH!!! QUIT TRADING WITH THE WHITESOX THE GIVE US CRAP EVERYTIME!!!!!!! What about trading Soria.  I would like to see what people would say about actually trading Soria.  Because as I see it, he still has some value and we are begging for a good starting pitcher. O'sullivan's nice, but I would have much rather kept Callaspo who was hitting a consistant .320.  Chen is good but he's injured, and Davies is probably going to be sent down or possibly released after coming back from a minor league rehab assignment.  But going back to Soria.  I think that Collins could easily fill the roll of Soria and be a strong closer.  Even as a rookie! Or even Coleman.  They both go out there and get the job done 123 everytime.  Collins has easily been our most lights out bullpen guy next to Crow but he is working to be a starter.

that's pretty much a long fanshot but

only finding 3 blown saves, one of which the Royals won in extra innings.

Yep

Doesn’t seem too alarming. His save percentage is 75%. Mariano Rivera is 81%. Jonathan Papelbon is 89%. Shoulda signed that guy Kyle Farnsworth – he’s converted 90% of his save opps.

Thought the exact same thing.

How many topics did he cover here? I’m going to say five. Maybe 8.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

He screwed his mechanic

Might as well turn him to starter while he re-tune in minors

I am probably the only Royals fan in Hong Kong?

Very disappointed in Soria

First he begs out of the Mexicutioner moniker and then shaves his unibrow. Ask Sampson how the hair thing works, Joakimito. About the same as it has for you…

I honestly don’t know if he’s even worth what he’s getting paid right now. He used to be “the guy”. Now he’s just “another guy.” I’d rather see Crow closing at this point.

Make him a starter

Maybe that will wake him up. He probably sees Crow, Jeffres as potential closers and its screwing him up.

Whats the big deal he’s still a former all star if it doesn’t work out and will always have trade value. The guy is a good pitcher lets maximize his value

I also NEVER

understood the rational of having an elite level closer on a really bad team. He was always underutilized. Make him a starter then!

It might have been different when we had Greinke

But we have no one! Hochevar is a #3 starter IF he reaches his potential.

It should be without a doubt in anyone’s mind that Soria would be the best starter we have. Maybe its the lift we need.

But we all know Moore is too dumb to do it. He gets a free pass because he built a great farm system. Still, I think RR would have drafted just as well if we had the plethora of top picks Moore had.

Lets see #2 pick in 2007, #3 pick in 2008, #9 pick in 2009 (and I was pushing for Crow), #4 pick in 2010….this isn’t tough people!

Soria Starting?

I just can’t see Soria starting. He hasn’t ever started in the majors and it would take a long time in the minors to reach that potential to try starting in the majors. There’s a better chance to see Jeff Suppan starting THIS year for the Royals then seeing Soria start. And you are correct about Moore. He would be too dumb to actually do it. Someone said Jeffress should close? No way. He can throw fast but as soon as I saw him come in the game yesterday the only thing I could think of he’s going to walk batters because his control sucks and…well… he walked three. Cost us the game. If only one run scores then we tie up the game again. Collins would be much better closing. Soria still has trade value. Make a good trade and get rid of him

Not a bad post

This guy for GM!

LOL, only Teahen and MacDougal were traded to the Whitesox, but yeah bad trades!

Dotel Was traded to the white sox. and eventually Jemaine Dye made it over there too after a poor trade with the Oakland Athletics. Another proven team we don’t trade well with.

We traded Dotel to the Braves

They will never

make Soria a starter, and not Tejeda either. (He was not mentioned but has a 2.70 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 8.35 K/9 in 7 Royal starts) With the spot start going to Adcock instead of Crow, I wonder about him as well.

Really, if they were going to experiment with Soria or Tejeda, what better time than in a year they were (initially) punting for the future with an initial rotation of Hochevar, Chen, Francis, Davies and Mazarro (who became SOS when he was ineffective in the minors) They could have used spring training to stretch them out.

Hopefully Soria returns to partial form this year. He is 27 appearances away from being guaranteed $6 million in 2012, and barring injury, that will happen. They will owe him $8 million in 2013 and $8.75 million in 2014 in a club option if he is still on the team. (With a $750,000 buyout) A return to form would make him a valuable member of the team or high value in a trade. If the downward trend continues through next year, the team might have to buy him out in 2013, which would be a horrible PR move with the fan base. (Even if he totally lost it, he is a popular name player, and with the casual fan, that doesn’t go away easily)

Well

if they trade soria, they’ll need a guy who throws strikes. Collins walks a ton of batters, jeffers is being made into a starter so they’re out. coleman would be interesting though
