Interviewer: "How do you feel after tonight's win/loss?"
Player who had the game-winning hit/best performance in a losing effort: "Well, we just don't quit, we keep battlin' until the last out."
Interviewer: "How do you keep this momentum going/break out of this funk?"
Player who's been performing best lately: "We just gotta keep working, keep battlin' out there every day, you know?"
Interviewer: "...what was the key to <game deciding play>?"
Player who may or may not have been involved, or even clearly saw the play in question: "It was tough, you know? The <other team> kept battlin', but we battled back from the battle."
Interviewer: "...sure. Ah, so finally, about <tough luck player> -- as his teammate and a veteran, what advice would you give to him?"
Player: "I'd just say to keep battlin', you know? If he keeps battlin' and we keep battlin', eventually the battle that we're battlin' will be battled with our battalion of battle-tested battlers out there on the battlefield."
Interviewer: "<mind blown>"
****************
I'm joking, of course. Sort of. Hits, walks, strikeouts, runs, errors...all those things are great stats, but I think I'm interested in seeing how many times variations of the word "battle" are used around baseball in postgame interviews.
