Chris Getz improved average 50 points over last 10 games
I'd 100% given up on Getz, but he's gotten on base in 18 of his last 39 plate appearances (excluding any sacrifices and HBP's that aren't showing up), and in doing so, has raised his season Fangraphs WAR to 0.8.
Getz is a solid defender at 2B and is great on the basepaths. At the plate, he works walks and rarely strikes out. But he doesn't hit for average, and that kills his value entirely. Does this hot streak give us a sliver of hope that he might someday post a .280 average?

He's young, still.
And he’s just needed an extended chance at the MLB level. – TL
"Sir,--It has been wittily remarked that there are three kinds of falsehood: the first is a 'fib,' the second is a downright lie, and the third and most aggravated is statistics." *The National Observer* (June 13, 1891): p. 93-94.
But he doesn't hit for average
Getzie does have a .337 OBP, which the statheads tell me is a more important stat than BA. One reason for his increased BA is that his L/R split has tightened up to .257 each after having surprising trouble against righties. He also hits .333 on bunts and has been using them a little more. Then there is also some luck, like Tuesday’s three infield hit game, although his BABIP is slightly below average at .286. Maybe some of the BA is BABIP rising to the mean?
Been in discussions with others about whether Getz and Aviles are ‘average’ 2B. I don’t really think so, due to the light hitting, but in our wonderful farm system we don’t have anyone better til we get down to Rey Navarro at Wilmington. Curious about your opinion on that, specifically, can the Royals be a championship team with Getz or Aviles at 2B, given that Escobar’s defense and run saving ability will keep him at SS forever?
Yes. He is my favorite SWG.
He has 0.9 WAR right now, 0.5 on offense and 0.4 on defense. He’s also, I think, 8-1 on stolen base attempts. Escobar’s hitting is going to have to improve; if he could just OBP .300 that’d be good enough. He’s at 0.2 WAR right now, -0.6 batting and +0.8 fielding. Also, he should not be allowed to try to steal bases, as he’s 5-4 on the season. Our good base stealers are Getz and Aviles.

Only guy on the team with more BBs than Ks
If he had only a hint of power, it would make a world of difference. I think I figured yesterday that if 10% of his fly balls had left the park, it would raise his OPS by almost 100 points. I suppose you could do something like that with everyone, but still….
We have met the enemy, and he is us.
Meh
You’re true talent level is somewhere between your best stretch and your worst. This is probably his best stretch.

Ok, so you don't think he's a .400 hitter,
but do you think he might be a .270 hitter?
.320 career OBA in 850 PAs
That’s probably what he is. And that, coupled with virtually no power, means he should be a nice guy off the bench, but not an everyday player.

Yeah - a fine defensive replacement
If only we had a manager that did that sort of thing….
