Not many of us expected much of anything from Blake Wood this season -- and, of course, the season isn't over -- but at this point, Wood has been quite an under-the-radar contributor to the Royals bullpen this year.
Just about all of his numbers are good-to-very good.
ERA - 2.51
WHIP - 1.08
K/9 - 7.54
K/BB ratio - 2.67
OPS Against - .603
Now, while it would really only take a couple of bad outings to screw up those numbers, and of course there's a lot of season to go, I thought it a good time to appreciate what he's done and acknowledge that the mini-gamble to bring in Wood has, so far, paid off.
(also, I remember NY Royal and I have a spirited argument on whether it was worth it to pitch Wood in high-leverage situations...he might not be there yet, but Scott, you'll certainly have to admit that at this point Wood has certainly earned the right)
Poll
Do you believe Blake Wood can sustain this type of performance for the rest of 2011?
Yes. He's done it for two months, that's enough to convince me. (22 votes)
No. He's done well to this point, but he'll be exposed at some point. (17 votes)
