Kila gives up on trying to draw walks
If only he had done this 3 months ago, he would have stayed in KC.

Silly boy
He actually believed GMDM when he said that the team valued OBP.
"Things could always be worse." - Buddy Bell
Yeah he should have known
If he had the plate discipline of Francour and just swung at everything he wouldn’t have been demoted, regardless if his OBP was less than .315 like Francour’s.
Just get rid of him – let him go to a team that will actually win

Francouer has been through an equally bad stretch as Kila...
I like to think he is not demoted for performance because, unlike Kila, nobody is in AAA to fill RF. But we know better. DM LOVES Frenchy and it really doesnt matter how little he hits or get on base. HE’S AN RBI GUY, DAMMIT!
No, regurgitating something Scott Mckinney says or checking baseball reference does NOT make you a "stats guy".
And it certainly won't make Vin Mazzaro pitch any better.
It looks like you and I
are the only ones that completely detest Moore.
If you listen to Kila’s comments from this article he is another:
"They had their plans, and they went ahead and made a move," Ka’aihue said. "I guess it was for the best of the team."
Ka’aihue said he decided to reinvent himself at the plate in Class AAA.
"It really doesn’t matter here, so I can take that chance," he said. "Numbers don’t mean anything, so I’m not really worried about that.
It really doesn’t matter how great he plays he will never get another chance in KC, unless Butler/Hosmer get hurt of luckily Butler is traded.. Both Moose and Hosmer will most likely finish with OPS under .700, but Kila will have his career ruined toiling in Omaha. He needs a full year to develop in KC and he won’t get it. Gordon had an OPS of .725 his rookie year in 2007. And in 2009 and 2010 combined Gordon’s OPS was under .700. He was given several years to develop. Afraid to screw up again, Moore promotes Hosmer and doesn’t want to risk messing with the head of HIS prospect.

Kila may or not be worth a damn
but its hard to argue that from the Jacobs trade until Kilas last demotion, that Kila was woefully mishandled by Moore. Now Kila II (aka Clint Robinson) is tearing AAA up, Kila style.
How will Dayton mishandle this situation? Watching Moore make major league roster decision is like watching a monkey fuck a football.

Its so true
I made a list of about 50 players Moore acquired that is a collection of some of the worst baseball players in the league. People still defended him…
People were laughing at and criticizing me after arguing since guys like John Buck were not his acquisition but he still continued to play him it was his responsibility AND that Gordon’s good performance this year should also then be attributed to Moore. That is crazy. Gordon and Butler are the two best players (and in the past the two best prospects by a large margin) the Royals have. Moore should be measured by his lack of improving the Royals lineup because in 5 years Gordon/Butler are still our two best players. Its sad
The truth is in the last 5 years Moore has wasted almost $150,000,000 (two thirds spent on Guillen/Meche) of Moore’s money on horrible players and our two best hitters (Gordon/Butler) weren’t even his acquisitions.
A monkey could spend that much money over 5 years and still have a lineup in which are two best hitters weren’t even acquired by him. And have the worst starting rotation in baseball. It’s not that hard. But Moore needs over 5 years before the #1, #2, #3, #12, #4, #5, etc overall picks graduate to KC. Meanwhile he can just waste Glass’ money and prove how horrible he is at constructing a team. What a difficult job he has!
There comes a time when the KC fanbase has to hold him accountable and demand changes. Here in NY, the Mets fan HAD ENOUGH of Minaya’s ineptitude and the laughingstock the Mets have become. Now after hiring Alderson and Collins, the Mets FA moves from management down to the players has been downright fantastic

I'm trying to figure out how 44+36 = 2/3's of 150 though.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
It was 55 million to accurate
It was a gift a gift when Meche decided to retire. So “almost” 100,000,000 is 2/3 of 150,000,000

See how the word “acquisition” is changing meaning depending on what helps your conclusion? I’m sure that if Alex were having a bad year, he’d be on the list of 50 Moore acquisitions.
DM stuck with him through two awful seasons the last two years. He deserves the credit for that if you’re going to blame him for John Buck
the only blame that should be placed on moore for john buck...
is that he let him leave

Its nice to see Gordon play this well I agree
You can give Moore credit for transitioning him into an OF I guess. Why can’t he find a decent to good baseball player in 5 years that isn’t one of his top 3 overall draft picks or a top 3 overall draft pick that was drafted a year before he became the GM.

its gonna be hard for a team to win with kila playing first base for them
and yes, compare frenchy and kila…that makes sense…one is a good defensive RF and the other is a bad defensive 1b…thats comparing apples to apples, right?

I'm a Royals fan
But part of me would love to see Kila go to another AL team and hit 35 home runs a year.

Walking is not the problem
The ability to turn on a 95 mph fastball is.
The problem was not walking, it was not being able to hit, which was entirely consistent with scouting reports about poor bat speed.
by WURoyal on Jun 30, 2011 4:19 PM EDT via mobile reply actions 1 recs
I'll grant you he didn't hit (in what still is a small sample size, like it or not); however,
he appeared to have far more trouble with breaking balls than good fastballs, FWIW
"We're gonna win with pitching and defense" General Manager Dayton Moore, circa winter 2009
"Where did all these Indians come from?" General George Armstrong Custer, circa summer 1876
Yes, He Was
Baffled by breaking pitches, particularly from LHP.

Agreed
According to Fangraphs (sample size is an issue, of course), FB was his best pitch to hit in 2011 and for his career (except splitters, oddly enough).
Runs above average for 100 pitches:
FB -0.07
CB -0.42 (next highest)
This might change depending on how well Fangraphs classified “cutters”, as they were one of his worst pitches. But even so, cutters aren’t a problem b/c of pitch speed, it’s a problem of movement and location.

Oh, and how could I FORGET
My favorite stat about Kila’s “not being able to hit”:
Kila’s slash for Apr 20 to May 4, 2011, right before he was sent down: .276 / .344 / .448.

And if I want to cheat the endpoints,
by excluding the last game (0 for 4), he was .320 / .393 / .520
(my endpoints are the end of his slump (4/20, btw) and when he was sent back to AAA)

HIs first 45 games
are identical to Hosmer’s first 45 games.
He’s not given a chance because the Royals wanted to make room for Hosmer because the Royals were still in it. Maybe Moore learned his lesson after forcing Kila to stay in MILB behind Mike Jacobs and didn’t want to make the mistake the same mistake.
Either way he screwed up

until then, dayton did the right thing…just as he did with huber and shealy

Two things that don't matter too much:
(1) his numbers against lefties this year were dreadful (.130/.192/.261), but that was only in 26 AB, so I will parrot what everybody else says about “small sample size,” and
(2) his 2010 numbers against lefties were a lot better (.250/.277/.477), but only over 47 AB.
I have a hard time thinking that Kila got a fair shake based on the small sample sizes. Maybe he’d come closer to the 2010 numbers if given more of a chance.
Of cours he would
Look at Gordon’s numbers in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He had a .700 OPS combined in over 250 games.
Why doesn’t KIla get 250 games to prove himself. You wouldn’t want him coming up proving he belongs; it would only make Moore look bad for banishing him to AAA to promote his top prospect (and we lose him a year early for it) for a playoff run that never materialized since we are the worst team in the AL
by GobbleforCyoung on Jun 30, 2011 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions

kila cant hit at the major league level...
that point will be proven when he never does anything for the royals or anyone else….and if you’re saying kila can hit due to two weeks of decent hitting, then, can TPJ hit?…Yuni?…Brent Mayne? They all had hot streaks

what I'm doing is comparing the validity of these two statements:
“Kila’ can’t hit at the ML level”
and
“Kila hit well for his last two weeks at the ML level”
Neither is particularly true or meaningful, yet they are equally so.

Any of these guys can hit ML fastballs if they sit on FB.
Which is what Kila was doing. Also made him completely helpless vs. offspeed stuff. Phil Coke personally ruined Kila.

Kila's success in AAA was hitting mistakes
If he’s trying to “reinvent” himself by hitting quality pitches, more power to him.
