On May 9, I posted this poll when the Royals were 18-16. They were still riding a hot warm start and some thought they were legit contenders with the Indians riding an unsustainable start and the Twins and White Sox having tanked. At the time, these were the standings:
Kansas City 18-16
At the time, the most common poll answer was that the Royals would win 76-77 games. The distrubition was fairly normal with some significiant skewing towards the higher end. Optimism was high. But since May 9, the Royals have gone 9-18, dropping them to 26-34. Now the standings look like this:
Kansas City 26-34
So Cleveland is still leading, followed closely by Detroit with the White Sox back in it. The Royals don't look at all like contenders and have nearly fallen to the level of the lowly Twins.
So for those who thought a month ago that the Royals would be contending this season, has your opinion changed? Or are they still contenders?
