Finally, Jake Odorizzi was promoted to NWA today, a promotion which he very much deserves. His stats, especially strikeouts, are among the most impressive in the minor leagues. 103 K's in 78 innings and 15 starts is impressive at any level. Add in the fact that the rest of his numbers are stellar and it's hard not to be excited about this prospect. This is great, but there is another pitcher in A ball who is long overdue for a promotion, and that's Noel Arguelles.
Personally, I'm still adjusting to the fact that Arguelles exists, let alone that he is a possible high level prospect, but what he's done so far in 2011 for Wilmington is hard to ignore. While his strikeout rate isn't incredible like Odorizzi's, his WHIP is under 1 and his ERA is about 50 points lower than Odorizzi's. But the stat that wows me is 5 walks in 66 IP. That's less than one walk every other start. And even though his K/9 rate is about half of Odorizzi's, his K/BB rate is around 8/1, where Jake's is a 5/1.
