Aviles Vows: Don't Bet Against Me!

86

The June 9 demotion of Mike Aviles set off a bit of a war of words mainly concerning whether Chris Getz was better, worse or equally bad (http://www.royalsreview.com/2011/6/9/2216382/royals-call-up-3b-mike-moustakas and http://www.royalsreview.com/2011/6/9/2216311/aviles-demoted). Aviles’ numbers at the time were obviously bad at .213/.257/.391/.647, and he had been picked off five times and committed eight errors. Subsequent to the demotion, Aviles has had a very good hitting line in Omaha: .315/.333/.608/.941, with 9 HR in 130 AB. However, he’s also had 5 errors in 33 games. He (and his AAA hitting coach) say that he has made mechanical adjustments and he thrives on being more aggressive, instead of trying to go up the middle and opposite field (or what I call being "Seitzered"). Aviles was quoted as saying he’ll be back in the big leagues: "I know I'll be back up there." Since the demotion, Getz has hit .264/.295/.264/.559 without a single extra-base hit. Do you want Aviles back? Is Getz just fine? Giavotella?
