#royals GM Dayton Moore made it sound like Giavotella will not get called up soon. Told me Getz is a "mistake-free player." More at 6.

Lance Veeser

Getzy doesn't kill rallies with doubles, triples, or home runs.. for example..

but DM will be a smart GM when the prospects arrive, really!

It's a shame that we...

except for that game he lost by letting a routine DP through his legs

or every time the outfield goes into slow-pitch rover defense due to his inability to hit it over anyone

Todd Haley's kids know more swear words than I do.

or the time he recently double-clutched and two runs scored

(leaving Frank White to say he should have been called for a two run error)

by kansasjohn on Jul 22, 2011 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Brings up a good point.

He has no clue how to make a quick throw. Either a double clutch, or when he’s charging in—he always grabs the ball and brings it up to throw over the top. Freaking throw sidearm from 15 feet away!

From MLB Trade Rumors
The Phillies remain in contact with the Royals about Melky Cabrera, but the Royals have told teams they’re more likely to deal Jeff Francoeur. Kansas City is asking for a number three starter who’s nearly Major League ready in return for Cabrera.

This is from Jayson Stark. If they’re really more likely to trade Francoeur, I might pass out. And I actually agree with making the asking price for Melky too high. Somebody might get desperate, or we keep him. No harm.

by hawkinscm87 on Jul 22, 2011 5:28 PM EDT reply actions

Trading Frenchy and moving Melky to right would be idle for me.

Then bring Cain up and bring Giovatella up. Makes too much sense to actually happen.

by vic1124 on Jul 23, 2011 3:33 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m kind of neutral on that idea. Frenchy can really drive the ball, but I could reverse my train of thought and see where you’re coming from. I also hope that Giavotella can stay out of low gear if he gets called up.

this is the most annoying thing about being a royals fan

having to listen to the same stupid things about bad players every year

getz has no future in MLB, he’s pretty well established that. still, we have to spend 2011 pretending he’s good

Jeff Passan made interesting comments on Nick Wright (afternoon radio show) today

He thinks it’s possible that Adam Dunn has lost his ability to hit, similar to Rick Ankiel losing his ability to throw a strike and Chuck Knoblauch’s ability to throw to first. Paraphrasing: “If it can happen to a pitcher and a fielder, why not a hitter?” Based on that, and the fact that Dunn has already made millions upon millions of dollars, he thinks it’s possible he pulls a Gil Meche.

by hawkinscm87 on Jul 22, 2011 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions

i guess both things are possible

who knows

big papi looked done a couple times, as did Giambi. he’ll probably bounce back a little.

by Freneau on Jul 22, 2011 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions

It is not uncommon for players of Dunn's skill set to fall off a cliff earlier than you'd usually expect

Like Richie Sexson. That doesn’t necessarily mean that is what is happening here.

I'm glad he's admitted that.

I would be worried if he wasn’t aware of that yet.

obviously Getz is awesome

look at the number of baserunners on base for him, and the number of baserunners on base after he hits. It’s higher, therefore he must be awesome.

Nobody outside the front office

and possibly his mother thinks Chris Getz is any good. It’s an absurd notion, like saying Hitler was nice or Rocky Denis was handsome.

Look on the bright side.

He wouldn’t have gotten engaged this month if he actually looked like Rocky Dennis.

More from Jayson Stark
And here’s another potential deal that’s been overblown: Melky Cabrera to the Phillies. Not that those teams haven’t talked about that swap. In fact, they remain in touch. But the Royals have told all teams that have called on both Cabrera and Jeff Francoeur that A) they’re more inclined to move Francoeur (because they control Cabrera through next year) and B) they want a near-big-league-ready No. 3-type starting pitcher in return.

The reason that’s an issue for the Phillies is that their only young pitcher who fits that profile is Vance Worley. And clubs that have asked about Worley (including, presumably, Kansas City) have been told he’s off the market. So one AL executive who has spoken with both the Royals and Phillies says, emphatically, that, unless the Royals’ asking price changes, those two teams “just don’t match up.”

I’m not sure about Vance Worley. Surely, “the computer guys upstairs” have told Dayton that Worley is a good candidate for big time regression. ERA=2.02, xFIP=3.99, SIERA above 4.

Yes,

but what’s his W-L record?

Regardless if he is due for regression...

Wouldn’t Worley still be a steal if they got him for Melky?

Yes, of course.

But it’s not a possibility anyway.

by hawkinscm87 on Jul 22, 2011 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

That would still be a pretty good value for Melky

Heck, for a controllable young guy with a 3.99 xFIP, I might even throw in Blake Wood. You’re welcome, Philadelphia.

Really

Gio gets blocked, Kila doesn’t get a chance, Cain is still in the minors, Betemit doesn’t play at all until we trade him, Our GM makes shitty trades…the list goes on and on. It is rough.

JoPo had a good bit on this

St. Christopher of the Blessed Getz has a BA >.300 with RISP. He has 22 hits with RISP, but a TOTAL of 21 R’sBI. The more I think of this, the more incredible it is. He is magical.

Recap...

Dayton Moore paraphrased: Giavotella is a really productive hitter in the minor leagues. Defense is coming along. Yanno, he’ll get his chance.

Then he voiced the talking points on Getz.

This guy, Lance Veeser, really went above and beyond his job here. He’s supposed to report the news, but he ended up giving a lot of speculation based on his opinion. I’m sure Dayton said more to him than on camera, but he says “sounds like we won’t be seeing him in the near future.” That’s bullshit. He is merely taking GM speak and deciding that his pessimistic view is the right on. He might be right, but he has no clue.

I don’t think Dayton is going to give anything other than standard GM speak to a local TV sports anchor anyway. The only time he has any reason to elaborate at all is when he’s talking to someone he respects.

by hawkinscm87 on Jul 22, 2011 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Regardless of who he's talking to

Only problem is the game he is playing is solitaire.
