Royals with deep system have some interest in Upton with eyes on contending next year.
Along the lines of trading for Ubaldo... A deal for Upton makes much less sense to me.

a player with a 239/318/403 line since 2009 is the last piece for contention
Dayton Moore does all his scouting out of a “2007 SI Baseball preview” doesn’t he?
for fucks sake.. BJ Upton is not worth it

But you have to admit
A team with BJ and Adock has hilarious comedic possibilities. Is Chien Ming Wang available?

I've always been amazed that BJ stands for "Bossman Junior"
and people call him BJ.
I would feel shafted
if I were just plain old Justin.

Seems like "Boss" would be a kick ass nickname
While “BJ” either brings up snickers or thoughts of “BJ and the Bear”

Snark is much less impressive when you obviously twist the stats to fit your argument
Upton has been a 4 WAR player on average since 2007 and is still 26.
He doesn’t turn us into WS contenders overnight, but he has shown to be an above average player during this career thus far with upside potential.
one problem is that he'd be taking over for melky
whose been something of a 4 WAR player this year and where has that gotten us? Consider that we’d have to give up something of value for him.
I'm less worried about the outfield situation
than I am the starting pitching and catching situation.
Are there any catcher free agents available this winter? If not I guess its either Pena, Treanor, or Perez.
Trading top prospects to go all-in for a serious run in 2012?
While Moore doesn’t really deserve the benefit of the doubt on pretty much anything, I’m not going to believe this until something actually happens.
You may know me as NYRoyal.
yeah...there's no reason to believe he'll do something this shortsighted...
but i wouldnt expect it to happen unless he’s on a crazy hotseat that we dont know

One thing is that BJ is the exact type of CFer Moore wants - fast, rangy, power (and hacks a lot - seems to matter)
But I’m with you that he’s not giving up anything good for Upton, especially not when he already has a very similar player in AAA (though Cain doesn’t really have the same power, or the same ceiling (that BJ was never able to stay at)).
Kila's slash for Apr 20 to May 4, 2011, right before he was sent down: .276 / .344 / .448

I can totally see the Royals throwing in Kila in a deal
Seems like the kinda guy the Rays would give a shot to. Although his power seems totally sapped this year.

I'd actually really like to see us get Upton
but i’m sure the price won’t be right
Please no!
Upton looked pathetic this weekend at the plate and in the field. I would only trade our prospects for starting pitching (and not SOS or Mazzaro type starting pitching).

Plus we're forgetting
BJ has a BAD ATTITUDE. Once after a Rays win, he made a big pouty face! Do we really want that on this club?

Melky with
a 3.2 WAR, Upton 1.5; Melky -0.1 fld, Upton -1.7; Melky .332 OBP, Upton .310. Must be missing something.
Upton will be a reeeeeeeeeeal leadoff hitter
which is the big hole on the team, obviously

Melky is having a better year
Upton has had a more productive career.
Which do I think is better going forward? Probaby BJ Upton. Which would I rather have on this team, this year? Probably neither.
I get the feeling the cost for Upton is higher than it really should be, and even though prospects are seeming to be overvalued this trade deadline, I don’t want to give up too much for him.
There’s no need to go out and get a player like Upton in a trade. You already have Melky! And Cain!
Dayton just needs to stick to…

Shouldnt we be interested in Shield?
Shields would add a ton to this team, i wouldn’t be mad if we unloaded our prospect besides maybe monty,Cuthbert, and Starling for a couple proven stud starters.
I'd like for the Royals to be closer to contending before doing something like that
You may know me as NYRoyal.

Depends
If its a guy signed for 3 years or so, I think its worth the gamble. Like you have pointed out many times, it does not appear as if we have the stud pitchers we will need. Shields at least gets you a bit closer to having a rotation like that. If the Royals are not competitive within the next three years, this “greatest system in the history of whatever” has probably failed.
