Aaron Crow almost qualifies for Type B
Melky, Frenchy, and Betemit are also close. Gordon now qualifies.
Bruce Chen looks to be our only real Type B free agent at the end of the year. That is as good of a reason as any to keep him over Francis.

That’s good news, although I imagine he’ll have to pitch reasonably well the rest of the way.
Doesn’t really matter at all if Gordon or Crow qualify for Type B FA. Or Melky for that matter, since none of them are eligible for FA.

I'm not sure about that, he wanted a multi-year deal last year.
He is most likely will look for one again this year after two good years in a row, and would most likely get it this offseason. Royals have a solid chance to get a comp pick for him.

Then we get him for one more year
It probably won’t be for crazy money, and he’s been okayish as a back of the rotation guy. Not a bad deal if we “lose.”
