Top of the Royal Order Destroys Tiger Pitching in Romp

KANSAS CITY, MO - JULY 09: All ages were amazed. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

The embattled Royals won easily on Saturday night for a change. Mostly, it was the top of Ned Yost's lineup doing the damage:

Luke Hochevar was actually pretty bad tonight, but it came on a night in which it didn't matter. Still, he was bad enough to miss out on a chance to get a cheap win.

On 99.9% of other nights

we would be brandishing pitchforks and lighting torches against Hochevar. Regardless the “team” helped him out tonight so yeah awesome, go Hochevar.

At this point in the season... I have the same reaction to crushing defeat, and destructive victory.

… Yet I still watch the games. Well Kind of. I couldn’t tell you what I did for the last 2 innings, but the game was on.

Monty on the post-game show talking about Hoch.

Basically said something like, We’ve heard this before from him and the thing is it’s the same problem he’s always had and it’s not getting better.

Someone tangentially related to the Royals noticed! I’m getting irrationally excited. Maybe only another 2 years of futility and he’ll be released!

haha, yeah. Thank god somebody in the broadcast said it.

I think Frank is starting to become more critical of the team too.

His last two starts have been his worst

But there is a lot better chance of Hoch figuring stuff out than there’s ever been for Davies. Until the rest of the team is ready to contend and Hoch is the one piece left holding them back, they may as well let him try to fix things.

by Prime2U on Jul 10, 2011 12:42 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Exactly

We gave up a #1 overall pick on Hochever. I understand Moore trying to let him figure it out. You know what we sacrificed for Davies? Octavio Dotel. Big f’in deal!! Cut bait, dude. Dayton’s dumb love affair with Davies is beyond all comprehension. But, Hoch is creeping towards that sentiment.

I need to go take a Davies and wipe my Elarton. Excuse me.

by royaldaddy on Jul 10, 2011 1:52 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I never thought of it that way, Royaldaddy

This is the first time I’ve even thought about the fact that we “gave up a #1 overall pick” to acquire him.

I’m not being sarcastic. Interesting to put it that way.

that sounds really stupid

I meant that there’s a monetary value for picking #1 overall, as there is with every single pick, I would contend, and that we need to squeeze all of the value out of him so long as it is not detrimental to the team.

He seems to be doing a better job

Of getting on base without the hits, and hitting sacs to score runs lately. So even though his average has stabilized lately, he’s still performing much better offensively now.

Point of order. He didn't write "fag." He wrote "gay."

Slightly mitigating factor. He didn’t use the slur.

I am not in the habit of calling my friends gay, mostly because only a couple of them are.

I work with a guy who is over the other sexual preference than me...

And I give him shit all the time (it was really hard coming up with a term that couldn’t be spun there). His response is always the same… “Dude Im not guy, I just like dudes” He is the most prejudice person I have ever met, he really REALLY hates the stereotypical gay person.

Pitch him from the windup all the time for a couple starts. Let them steal 2nd and 3rd and take a shot at home. See if it’s physical or mental at least.

Does anyone know of a place to listen to old Royals games' radio broadcasts?

I want my wife to hear the aneurysm Bob Davis almost had when Gordo blasted that homer.

I wish I’d had the forethought to record tons of games in the last 20 years……I’d love to just sit on a Saturday morning or something and pop one of those in, not knowing which game or the outcome.

Our man Alcides has gap power

If he develops that, he’s going to be scary good. He belted that triple, and Alex hit that home run pretty hard, too. Is Hochevar good enough to keep for next year or do we scrap him? His peripherals are better than his ERA, but he gives up too many home runs. I’m definitely on the “Let’s keep Melky and platoon him” bandwagon, unless they offer us something a good deal better than Boom Boom Mazzaro.

I'd like to go after that Guillermo Moscoso guy who plays for the A's.

He seems like a cheap SP trade with good upside. We could probably get him for Melky/Frenchy or Aviles/Francis/Clint.

He’s only 27, so he will have a lot of upside.
