I have a question
is there something about the word “triple” that makes something sound more appealing? It seems to be the “in” word in marketing
Miller Lite is triple hops brewed – awesome!
Taco Bell has a Triple Steak Burrito – has to cost at least $11, right?
We have met the enemy, and he is us.
I had one, actually. Only like 3.50
Also, terrible.
My theory (hope it makes some kind of sense)
“Triple” seems to be, IMO, aimed at males. We (meaning guys) think about sex often during every day – I forget how often the various studies say (maybe someone else knows). A common theme of these thoughts is “threeways”. So, it seems likely (?) that we are already thinking “3 = awesome, 3 = good, 3 = want” several times a day. The use of “triple” is an attempt to hit on this theme at an unconscious level.
Or maybe not…

Thanks
Now I know what I’ll be thinking about the next time I hear “triple” during a commercial.

Two chicks at the same time, man...
…and I think I could hook that up, too, ’cause chicks dig dudes with Miller Light and Taco Bell.
uh oh, you don't think he....naw, nevermind.

Yes
Just got back. Thanks for ruining my vacation Dayton.

I just don't see him getting through the NL
He makes great sense for the Reds, even if it will be for next year.

After looking at a list of FA starting pitchers heading into the 2013 season
I really hope that Dayton holds off on Wandy, CJ Wilson or Edwin Jackson, etc. and tries to have enough money to land one or two of the better FA’s during the 2012-13 offseason:
Starting pitchers
Scott Baker (31) – $9.25MM club option
Joe Blanton (32)
Matt Cain (28)
Fausto Carmona (29) – $9MM club option
Kevin Correia (32)
John Danks (28)
Jorge De La Rosa (32) – $11MM player option with a $1MM buyout
R.A. Dickey (38) – $5MM club option with a $300K buyout
Scott Feldman (29) – $9.25MM club option with a $600K buyout
Gavin Floyd (30) – $9.5MM club option
Zack Greinke (28)
Jeremy Guthrie (34)
Cole Hamels (29)
Dan Haren (32) – $15.5MM club option with a $3.5MM buyout
Tim Hudson (37) – $9MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Colby Lewis (33)
Francisco Liriano (29)
Kyle Lohse (34)
Derek Lowe (40)
Shaun Marcum (31)
Daisuke Matsuzaka (32)
Brandon McCarthy (29)
Brett Myers (32) – $10MM club option with a $3MM buyout
Carl Pavano (37)
Jake Peavy (31) – $22MM club option with a $4MM buyout
Anibal Sanchez (29)
Jonathan Sanchez (30)
Ervin Santana (30) – $13MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Joe Saunders (32)
James Shields (31) – $9MM club option with a $1.5MM buyout
Jered Weaver (30)
Jake Westbrook (35) – $8.5MM mutual option with a $1MM buyout if club declines
Randy Wolf (36) – $10MM club option with a $1.5MM buyout
Carlos Zambrano (32) – $19.25MM player option depending on Zambrano’s Cy Young voting placement
After the 2012 season, we’ll have a much better idea what we really have in Duffy, Paulino, Crow (if they are serious about making him an SP again), Montgomery, Dwyer, maybe even Lamb (if his rehab goes well). I’d really like to see Dayton patch together a rotation for one more year, give all the non-pitcher rookies more time to develop, and then break the bank in free agency heading into 2013. Unfortunately, I have a feeling Dayton is going to “go for it” prematurely (again).

I agree that spending big should wait til 2013
for the same reasons you cited.
However, I think he should hire 10 new people just to make calls to other GMs and kick the tires on possible trades. We have the money and the prospects to get almost anybody if they’re available. If no trades happen, fine. But I don’t want to see Wandy, Cain or Kershaw swept up by the Blue Jays cuz Dayton was too busy coaching little league and we had nobody manning the phone lines.
Also, is it inevitable that we end up with Hudson and Lowe? Seems that way…
Let the record show I really want nothing to do with Wandy
As I was one of the few to vote “no” in that poll we had a few weeks ago.
It always depends on the terms of the deal.
If we could get him without having to trade any prospects, and only had to pay his salary for the life of the contract, would you want him?
I think I’d want him if we only have to give up one real prospect and one or two throw-ins.
I wouldn't do it
The only reasons to jump on a Wandy deal are (1) if you think his contract is really favorable going forward, and/or (2) you really think you can contend in 2012 and therefore need Wandy’s arm for next year. His contract is OK, but I just don’t see much surplus value. And I don’t think contention in 2012 is realistic. I’d rather save the prospects (even just for another trade), and spend the money and commit the years to one or two of the FA starting pitchers in the 2012-13 offseason.

i wouldnt give up a thing for him...
i’d take on the contract though…the yanks trade fell through b/c they’d only pay like 21 million or something….

I don't think even Dayton would be foolish enough to target Zambrano.
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the war room!

What do you think it's like to be a Brewers fan right now?
I mean, on one hand, your team is going to for it and they are good. One the other hand, the farm system is the worst in baseball (chisox might argue with that) and there is no future after all these guys contracts end.
Hope, but not of a future?
Milwaukee has at least a two-year window, maybe longer
Fielder is the only major loss after this year, but his departure also frees up money that they can spread around next year (plus extra draft picks). The remaining core is still relatively young, so it is not like their performances should fall off a cliff in 2012. Greinke and Marcum are free agents the next year, but the team could extend one or both of them. If they cannot or start to tank, they can follow the Blue Jays’ plan and cash in their talent still under control (Braun, Weeks, Gallardo) to restock the farm system.

Only if Obi Wan Anthopoulos teaches them the Jedi Mind Trick.
