Poll: Chris Getz in 2012?

With all the other most obvious choices mercifully gone by now, Chris Getz has firmly maintained his chokehold on the position of team whipping boy (when only considering players). And with a historically low ISO and a seeming knack to worm his way into the highest of leverage situations, why not?

I'm curious if the rest of you think he'll be on the 2012 Opening Day roster (for Kansas City; not Omaha/Sarpy County/ whatever it is).

Giavotella will be starting 2B and KC will fill need for utility player

with a player who can actually play more than 1 infield position. Y. Navarro has the inside track. He can spell 2B/3B/SS when necessary and also play OF. KC might seek a veteran to play those positions – maybe Willie Bloomquist could get a mutliyear, multimillion dollar contract?

I’d like to see KC carry one extra bench player instead of the one extra pitcher like this year. While Yost likes to play a regular lineup, there have been several times when a pinch hitter could have helped.

Especially last night.. knowing Yost, I don't know if he would have

but it would have been nice to have been able to pinch hit Navarro for Getz in the final AB of the game.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the war room!

I Said No,

But it could happen if we go with a 5 man bench. Brena, Navarro, Getz, Cain and a 1B/COF FA would be tolerable.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

I am putting Getz in the TPJ situation a few years ago.

There is no way Getz needs to be on the team if any one has any illusion of winning. None. If he is still on the team come opening day, the Royals management is not taking winning seriously.

Kyle Davies was also one of these players. When you start a season with him in the rotation, there is no actual plans on being competitive. Sullivan will be one for 2012. If Sullivan (or Getz) is part of the answer, then the answer is wrong.

I could go with a four-man bench

Pérez/Peña, Navarro, Cain (assuming he gets to play half the games), and a Betemitistic corner IF guy.

Grit and hustle

Getz and Yost will spend the offseason like Rocky and Micky training to take on Drago somewhere in Siberia. Getzy will struggle to learn every position on the field at first but he will get there with grit and determination and will be the key component on the 2012 Royals, that super utility guy that can spell those tired bats like Hosmer, Alcides, Moose and Gia whenever they need a break. Probably will edge out at least one for a starting gig while he is at it. A good move to make sure it works is finding a nice veteran infielder in the offseason like a Miguel Tejeda to mentor Getz and help make the Royals competitive. Are there any gritty veteran former Braves that will be available?

Honestly

I actually don’t mind Getz on the bench. He is exactly the kind of guy you want on your bench. He’s kind of like Pena, not worth developing and not worth playing except in specific roles. I know everyone else hates it, but I actually like that Ned defensively subs Getz in for Gia in the late innings of closer games. It’s Gia’s one glaringly “not-major-league-ready” flaw, and Getz is not great, but better that RRers give him credit for in the field.

I vote no

UNLESS Gio gets packaged with other prospects for a pitcher for next year, then Getz is the starting 2B (I live in fear that this kind of thing could happen a lot this offseason).

It's all ball bearings these days!
