Giavotella promotion poll
After Dutton's report that the Royals have a 100-150 AB goal for Giavotella this year, the promotion heat has cranked up yet another notch. They've all but told us that Giavotella will be promoted by September, so what possible purpose could delaying another week or 2 serve?
I don't know the answer to that, but what I do know is that I'll be checking Dutton's twitter daily for news of a promotion until it happens. Really, the declaration that the promotion will come soon sets a sort of fun stage, building anticipation. Without the Dutton report, Giavotella Day would have been a welcome relief to the futile Chris Getz Experiment, but with the added anticipation, Giavotella Day might nearly rival the excitement of Hosmas. I'm pretty sure it will beat Moustakukah.
So to bide our time until that Joyous Day arrives:

I voted August 9 or earliler
I’m guessing it happens over the weekend.
Although the fact that the next off day is the 22nd is noteworthy. The Royals might decide to carry an extra pitcher to get them through 20 games in 20 days.
Barring injury, I don't see it happening until September.
Or if the 40-man changes somehow with a waiver wire trade or somesuch. Hopefully I’m wrong – I’d rather he actually got 150 PAs.
Kila's slash for Apr 20 to May 4, 2011, right before he was sent down: .276 / .344 / .448

I don't pretend to get all bogged down with
knowing the waiver process, etc.- it bores me. However, how hard is it to get rid of some of this dead weight on our 40 man roster. Is not Kevin Pucetas still on it, for example?

There's some dead weight
But there’s also a bunch of guys that we’ll want to add to protect them from Rule 5 this winter. There is a bit of a 40-man roster crunch, but since Gia is going to be added either way, that rost crunch shouldn’t play any role in his promotion timing.
Maybe this is me being pessimistic, but Moore seems to see the "dead weight" as players he needs to keep around for some unknown reason.
Like Jesse Chavez, for instance. But looking at the Royals.com site, there aren’t a lot of other options – Kila, Clint, or maybe Bianchi might be guys that could pass through waivers.

To get rid of someone on the 40 man roster
You have to designate them for assignment, which exposes them to the waiver process. Anyone can claim them as long as they put them on their 40 man roster (not the active 25 man MLB roster).
Pucetas is no longer on the 40 man (he cleared waivers and was sent to Omaha IIRC). But we do have guys like Jesse Chavez, Derrick Robinson and Jeff Bianchi that would likely clear waivers if DFAed.
We will have to add guys this winter to protect them from the Rule 5. I could be wrong, but I believe the guys we’ll need to protect include:
2B Johnny Giovatella
C Salvador Perez
IF Rey Navarro
Any others?

They wouldn't really waste a 40-man roster spot on Rey-Rey Navarro would they?
He’s a borderline prospect who isn’t anywhere near MLB-ready. No team would claim him and I can’t imagine anyone would care if they did. But I could see Moore putting him on the 40-man.

Put the 40 best on the 40-man
Navarro could be a borderline case. If the last slot came down to Navarro vs Bianchi, it’d be a tough call for me.
Neither would be difficult for me
I have no problem leaving either of them off the 40-man. There’s little reason to be optimistic about the future of either player. And there is no risk that any team would take them in the Rule 5 draft.

But if we lose him
The Carlos Rosa trade was all for naught!

Bianchi would be a minor league FA I think.
Go Royals!
Well, you might as well protect as many as you can
It’s not like the Royals get bonus draft picks for 40-man roster spots that are left unused.
But why?
Why start burning the options of someone who is still years away when you don’t have to?
Edgar knows best.
The loss of the option year is the downside to protecting from Rule 5
I suppose it’s possible that the risk of being selected is so small that it’s worth taking that chance to be able to option the player to the minors at any point in the next 4 years rather than 5. But I doubt that happens much.
I'd like to have
at least one open spot on there too so that we can grab a Soria if one’s available in the Rule 5 draft.

I hope
It is late. Not because I don’t want to see him, I do. But to be honest I don’t really care about his bat, I care about his glove. If he is only here for September, to get those AB’s he’ll have to play every day which is a lot more useful for judging his D than 2 games a week and PH duty.
Edgar knows best.
Hah, that would be an unexpected degree of incompetence
If they called up Gia and let him rot on the bench. Yost said they wouldn’t do that, but with the Royals, you can’t rule anything out.
I look forward to September stories

You should just have Dutton's tweets sent to your cell phone.
I did that a long time ago and it’s perfect. He doesn’t tweet very much usually, but you always get the news first. The only problem I have is that I usually watch the game and he will sometimes tweet irrelevant statistics like hitting streaks. Thank God Billy’s series hitting streak is over. That was the worst.
If only the technology could be perfected
so I could have it only sent to my phone if he tweets between 11 am and 5 pm or something.
