Also, talked with Dayton Moore. Clarified the $55M-$60M quote. Said #Royals can sustain $75M-$80M payroll if winning and drawing well.
---
He was speaking in generalities, but did mention 2.4M as "drawing well." They were at 1.6 last year, 1.8 in '09. Headed for 1.6-ish this yr.
The Royals haven't drawn 2M since 1991, and only topped 2.4M in 1989.
What comes first, 25K-30K a game, or 75M-80M in payroll?

Rany:
Glad Moore clarified his remarks. But I don’t get why they need to be “winning” to have a $75-80M payroll. Last year’s payroll was $74.9M.

Because Glass had to be pissed to pay 75 million for the 5th worst team in the MLB. Might as well pay 30 million if you’re going to be that bad.
They need to have good players and be competitive to have a competitive payroll.

Would also help
if they had not priced normal people out of buying decent tickets.

Attenance and prices have to be similar to other markets
If we want to spend like other markets. 2.4 million 15 dollar tickets isn’t going to get it done.

outfield seats are spectacular and like 12 bucks...normal people can afford that

I'm not crazy about sitting there.
I used to sit in the old box seats (don’t know what they’re called now) from about 1995-2004 for about half of what they are now. And never thought twice about the cost.
Unfortunately, my salary has not doubled since then. Neither has the quality of the team. So I only go a handful of times a year now, as opposed to 20-50 times.

A lot of people feel the same
as you do, bbb.
And don’t get me wrong, if it was a meaningful game in a meaningful season, I’d be thrilled to be sitting there right beside you.

am I the only fan of upper deck (420/421ish)?
the $17 seats are pretty good if they’re not in the top half.

Chairman, The Melky Cabrera Seasoning Sauce. It's great on your outfield!
