Is anybody upset that Giavotella has taken Christopher "Cross" Getz place in the lineup? Before Gio came along we didn't know any better, we could simply accept that Getz was OK. Above average in the field, way below average at bat (besides bunting).
Getz has 351 at bats this year. Of those 351 at bats he has 90 hits, of those 90 hits he has only 8 extra base hits (6 doubles and 2 triples) that translates to a 2.2% of at bats/extra base hits.
I know Giavotella has only played three games, but he also has three extra base hits, including two doubles and a home run (which Getz hasn't hit since 2009) in those three games. Gio has, in my opinion already outperformed Getz offensively. The question is will he be an adequate defender? So far, so good.
