Is it just me, or has Jim Leyland...
...offered "unsolicited praise" for almost every young Royals player with even the most miniscule amount of promise over the past several years? Did he not once compliment Kyle Davies---or Betancourt or Buck or Teahen? Apparently Leyland enjoys killing the Royals softly. - TL

This is just like every single year (literally every single year I've been watching baseball)
when the first time the White Sox play the Royals, Hawk Harrelson goes on and on and on about how “KC played us so tough last year” and how “oh boy this team is gonna surprise some people this year.” Literally every single season he just can’t stop raving about how tough the Royals are gonna be this year during that first game.
Doesn’t mean jack shit with Harrelson, Leyland, or any other old farts who just like to talk about them ballplayers.
Killing time until time kills me
I will be a happy man if someday Hawk Harrelson complains in a broadcast that the Royals don’t “play the game the right way” and don’t look like a bunch of gritty gamers.
You may know me as NYRoyal.

So long as ...
…we’re winning while he notes that we’re wining the “wrong way.”

It's when they start bitching about you
that you know you’ve made it.
2011 Royals Review NCAA Bracket Challenge Winner, by process of attrition
You mean...
…bitching as opposed to praising? So, like how people complain about the Cardinals, Twins, etc. and how they annoy you with their winning ways?

He's just trying
to make sure that all of our crappy players/pitchers are in the lineup when we play the Tigers.

We've seen this playbook before...
Leyland is also a big “fan” of Kyle Davies.
