Impossible Dream Achieved: Mitch Maier Reaches 100 Plate Appearances
What do you do with a fourth outfielder when you love two of your starting OFs and the third is one of the best players in the American League?
Very little.
We've written about Mitch Maier before this season, and he's written back to us. Here's the topline point: MITCH doesn't play very much, yet the Royals have dutifully/weirdly/loyally kept him on the roster all season long. Easy money I guess.
Back on the 7th (the last time he played) Mitch got 3 PAs, which pushed him right to 100 on the season.
But oh, did Yost toy with us. Since August 14th -- now a full month ago -- MITCH has appeared in three games. Three.
Per plate appearance, MITCH has made $4,590 dollars every time he's stepped in the box this season.

Kind of undercuts the idea of Cain as 4th OF next year
Given how Yost uses his everyday guys and can’t cycle them through the DH spot, I can’t see a lot more ABs than MITCH got this year, assuming health.
I’d like to see Dayton sell high on Melky and go with Cain’s glove, but if his people have soured on Cain and want to deal him, then go for it. Just make a decision while both guys have some value.
what is this "selling high" of which you speak?

Ok, just sell
“Selling High” would be a movie starring Jonah Hill as an up and coming baseball exec. Oh, wait…..

Season's almost over, can we hold off on the inadvertant Gordon-jinxing for a bit longer?
You just increased his chances of a hamstring injury by 10%, a concussion by 8%, and the chances of an anvil falling off of a cliff, landing on a trampoline, and bouncing into Kauffman and off of his head as he tries to single to complete the cycle tonight by 32%.

Yeah
he’s the third one Will is talking about…unless your were making a joke about Francouer or Melky being one of the best players in the AL. In which case, don’t I feel like a horse’s bottom.

I believe that the summer camp only promises 100 at bats to all the players, so Yost has fulfilled
the contractual obligation.
Go Royals!

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
